Las Vegas Man Wins $5,000 Playing Fantasy Fishing
Ben Andreas of Las Vegas, Nev., correctly picked five of the top 10 anglers in last week’s Walmart FLW Tour on Kentucky Lake presented by Evinrude. For his picks, Andreas won $5,000 by playing FLW Fantasy Fishing, held in conjunction with the FLW Tour fishing tournament.
“I’ve played Fantasy Fishing in the past, but I’ve been much more into it this year,” said Andreas. “I like the new format with the salary cap and I love watching the weigh-ins on FLW Live and being able to see how my team is doing in real-time.
“I had been picking a lot of heavy hitters and high-salary guys in the past tournaments,” Andreas explained. “For the Kentucky Lake tournament I changed up my strategy a little and just tried to get guys who had experience on the lake and had done well there.”
Andreas’ strategy worked perfectly as Straight Talk Wireless pro Scott Canterbury, Clent Davis, Jason Lambert, Tim Malone and Tom Redington all made the top 10.
“I was really rooting for Redington on the final day,” said Andreas. “It would have been great to have him win.
“I’ve already started picking my team for the Forrest Wood Cup,” Andreas went on to say. “It is hard because everyone is so good, but I’ll definitely have Scott Canterbury and Casey Ashley on my team.”
Finishing in second place on the fantasy side for the Kentucky Lake event was Cory Nephin of Geraldton, Ontario, Canada who won $1,000, and in third was Ryan Ingalls of Fairfax, Va., who won $500. Several other winners from Florida to Ohio to Arkansas took home prizes including cash, ShopFLW gift cards, hats and baits.
