Jeff Cannon of Douglasville, Ga., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 19 pounds, 1 ounce on Saturday to win the second Walmart Bass Fishing League Bama Division tournament of 2014 on Lake Martin. For his victory, Cannon earned $3,718.

“I caught them on a jig in the backs of pockets in a little cut on the main lake,” said Cannon. “I think they were pulling back there and getting ready to bed. Every time I would catch a little buck bass there would be a big one too.
“I think I caught about 30 fish,” added Cannon. “In practice I wasn’t there ten minutes and I caught one about 6 pounds. During the tournament I caught all my big ones in about an hour.
“It felt good to win,” finished Cannon. “I’ve been knocking on the door for a while and it feels good.”
Cannon said he caught all of his fish on a brown jig with a NetBait Paca Craw with the tail dipped in chartreuse dye.

The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 2-4 Regional Championship on the St. John’s River in Palatka, Fla. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
