Three-Way Race For Points Title Highlights Greene Boat & Motor Trail Final Qualifier

Back in June, before the fifth of six qualifying tournaments in the Green Boat & Motor Team Trail, the points race was “tight as a drum,” and after that June 9 tournament it was still just as tight.

Following a three-month lay-off, the Greene Trail swings back into action on Lake Wylie Saturday with that points championship on the line.

“This is the sixth and final qualifying tournament and it is a double-points tournament so that should make it pretty interesting,” said tournament director Jeremy Cabe. “We have three teams that are within 10 points of each other.”

after the June tournament Archie Phillips and Thomas Richmond maintained their lead in the points race with 475 points. Following closely in second place with 471 points are Ron Farrow and Mike Allman, and in third position are Erwin Gaston and Derek Lilly with 464 points.

“With only one qualifier remaining it could still go to any of these teams,” Cabe noted. “They are all good local Lake Wylie anglers, so it should be interesting to see who comes out on top this weekend.”

Cabe said the winner of the points race at the end of the season will receive $1,000 and the second place points team will receive a new Minn Kota trolling motor.

“Beside that, it is an open tournament, so for a $100 entry fee anyone who wants to come and try to win the tournament’s $1,000 first prize will be welcome,” he said.

“Fishing has been fairly tough from what I’ve been told so I expect anyone who has 14 1/2 to 15 pounds will do very well, and that could be the winning weight,” Cabe said. “Although the fishing may be tough, some of the best anglers in North and South Carolina will be out there, so they could easily surprise us.”

The 2012 Greene Boat & Motor Championship will be held Oct 13-14 on Lake Hartwell out of Broyles Landing. The winners will receive a new boat, motor and trailer package.
