He took a fall in his boat that hurt him so badly he nearly opted to sit this one out. But, as Brauer noted, he’s never quit a tournament in his career so he decided to tough it out and just fish close to the tournament take off site.
Oddly enough, the fish-close strategy played into his hands as the day 1 start was delayed by a 3-hour fog delay.
When the fog lifted, many anglers endured painful rides over big waves as they ran to far-flung reaches of the monstrous reservoir.
Brauer just pitched a Strike King Premier Pro Model Jig and Rage Craw Trailer around nearby docks for three days.
He piled-up 56 pounds, 8 ounces and won by a margin of 2-12.
