Mobley wins MLF-Style tourney on Florida’s St Johns River
John Mobley won what very well may be the first-ever Major League Fishing-style tournament held on the St Johns River. All fish counted, none were hauled to weigh in – interesting format.
Mobley caugth 13 bass, for a total weight of 30 pounds, 3 ounces. He easily outpaced his nearest competitor, David Burch who piled up 18 pounds, 5 ounces of St Johns River bass.
Will this format, modeled after the made-for-TV Major League Fishing format, catch on for recreational tournaments?
The guys who participated seemed to enjoy it. Among the benefits noted by participants was the scoreboard effect of having the software constantly keep eveyone up to date on what their competitors had.
Also, no need for exemptions to allow an angler to keep more than one bass over 22 inches in length (Florida law) as all were released immediately.
