David Williams Re-Caps Bassmaster Elite Series Event #1 On The Sabine River
New for 2015 on Anglerschannel.com is full Elite Series Tournament re-caps from local angler David Williams. David is fishing the Elite Series for the 1st time ever this year and had a great start to the 2015 season down on the Sabine River in Texas, even though Day 1 was a wash. Here is his report and look for many more of these as we move through the season:
Day one of practice I found my best area about an hour south of the launch. It was just a shallow grass filled pond that had some clear water in it and it was full of fish. The second day of practice I practiced pretty close to the launch area. I found a pretty good area but it was getting lots of pressure. On day 3 Of practice I went back south but was never able to expand on my day 1 area. Day 1 of the event we had a 2 hour fog delay so I was gonna start close in the one area I found because I was in the 1st flight and I arrived at my 1st stop and Rick Clunn beat me to it so I decided to make the long run south and I didn’t make it far and I had a mechanical issue that kept me from making it so I ended up practicing on the first day of the event. I only managed to catch 1 keeper that weighed 2.6 and I found myself in 94th place! I came and got my boat fixed. After a 3 hour fog delay on Day 2 I made the run south to my best area. I caught 5 good fish that went 13.5 lbs. on a Reaction innovation skinny dipper and had the biggest bag of day 2! Moved from 94th to 24th place and made the cut! Day 3 only a 20 min fog delay and I got to run back to my area down south and in a flooding rain I caught another 5 fish limit that went 10.11 lbs. on the swimbait and caught some on a spinnerbait and finished up in 16th place. Only regret was not getting to fish my area on day 1. Good start to the season. Looking forward to Guntersville in 2 weeks!
