Bassmaster Kayak Series anglers take on the swamps of Caddo and Bistineau
Oct. 11, 2024
SHREVEPORT, La. — Much is on the line for anglers competing in the final 2024 Yamaha Rightwaters Bassmaster Kayak Series at Caddo Lake/Lake Bistineau scored by TourneyX event, and the big bass that swim in these waters can make or break someone’s season.
Tournament days are scheduled for Oct. 19-20th. Anglers will be able to launch from any approved launch on either of the two fisheries. Lines in is scheduled for 7:15 a.m. CT and competitors will have until 3:15 p.m. to fish in this catch-measure-release format. This is the final chance to earn Dakota Lithium Bassmaster Kayak Series Angler of the Year points and secure a spot in the 2025 Yamaha Rightwaters Bassmaster Kayak Series Championship scored by TourneyX at Lake Fork next March as part of the festivities surrounding the 2025 Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Classic in Fort Worth, Texas.
Both lakes are familiar destinations for kayak anglers, as both Kayak Bass Fishing and Hobie BOS have hosted important events there in the past. Multiple limits over 90 inches have been landed in fall and spring events, as well as several 100-inch daily totals and a 25.25-inch largemouth that was scored during a 2019 event.
To the west of Shreveport, Caddo Lake straddles the border of Louisiana and Texas and features a variety of cover for bass to hang around, including a multitude of cypress trees, lily pads, hyacinth, offshore grass and salvinia.
With a sizable slot limit for largemouth on the lake, many larger bass boat events stay away from Caddo, but with a catch-measure-release format, it is a perfect destination for kayak anglers.
A slightly smaller Lake Bistineau is east of Shreveport but offers plenty of big-bass opportunities as well. The lake is full of cypress trees, making it a shallow-water angler’s dream.
With the fall feed beginning in earnest, bladed jigs, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits will likely come into play around shallow cover as well as flipping and pitching presentations.
Heading into the Yamaha Rightwaters Bassmaster Kayak Series at Caddo Lake/Lake Bistineau scored by TourneyX event, reigning Bassmaster Kayak Series Angler of the Year Rus Snyders leads the AOY race once again with 730 points. He is followed by Casey Reed in second with 717 points, Massachusetts angler Derek Brundle in third with 707 points, Curtis Vance III in fourth with 703 points and Matthew Conant in fifth with 699 points. Ryan Nye is sixth with 696 points, Clint Pippen is seventh with 679 points, Jake Angulas is eighth with 678 points, BassmastHER ambassador Kristine Fischer is ninth with 676 points and John Tibbens is 10th with 670 points.
The Shreveport/Bossier City Sports Commission is hosting the event.
