Hooked On Country Tournament Expected To Be Largest Ever Held On Clarks Hill
The Clark Hill Committee is gearing up for the second annual Kicks 99 Hooked on Country Open Bass Tournament in anticipation that it will break the Clarks Hill Lake record for entries set last year.
“We had 278 boats last year which was the largest tournament ever held on Clarks Hill,” said Barry Frazier, a tournament director for the Clark Hill Committee. “We are hoping for over 300 boats this year. Our goal is to get 325 teams.”
The inaugural tournament in 2012 drew anglers from as far away as Tennessee, Virginia, even one boat from Ohio.
If they flow in as expected, anglers can expect to tap into some of the hottest fishing of the year, Frazier said.
“It is wide open right now,” he said. “It took 25 pounds to win a tournament on the lake last weekend.
Frazier said the fish are schooling on points and some fish are still bedding. Most are being caught on topwater baits and flukes, but some are catching fish on jigs and some are throwing Alabama Rigs, he said.
Entry fee for the tournament is $125 per team, which includes the big fish pot. The guaranteed first place prize is $15,000, with $2,000 paid for big fish and $1,000 for second big fish. Proceeds will be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Pre-registration and drawing for boat positions was being held Tuesday at North Augusta Customs in North Augusta, S.C. Late registration will be held at Wildwood Park from 5 to 6 a.m. with a $10 late fee applied.
The tournament is sponsored by Kicks99, Milton Ruben Toyota and The Clark Hill Committee which will provide tournament officials and conduct the tournament The tournament Saturday is one of six major events conducted on Clarks Hill Lake by the committee.
The 6th tournament is being added this year, the Potash Fishback Open Team Bass Tournament June 8-9, with a guaranteed first place purse of $12,000. Proceeds will benefit the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance and youth fishing teams.

Texas Team Trail Heads To Belton Lake With High Expectations!
NORMAN, Okla. (April 23, 2013) – The Texas Team Trail presented by Cabela’s will host its third event of the 2013 tournament season on May 4 at Belton Lake. This tournament will be the first event for the Texas Team Trail at this quality bass lake.
Registration for the event is already underway – anglers can secure an opportunity to pre-fish Friday, May 3, by completing their registration online or via phone prior to midnight on Thursday, May 2. All anglers that pre-register will also be entered into a drawing for a Power-Pole Shallow Water Anchor. The Fort Hood gate fee will be waived for anglers on Friday.
Designed exclusively for team competition, the event offers anglers an unprecedented opportunity in terms of payout, sponsor bonuses and television coverage.
The Belton Lake event is the third of four 2013 qualifying events. The first-place prize for this event will be a fully-rigged, Triton 18XS powered by an Evinrude 150 HO package, valued at $30,000. The first place prize, plus a budget-friendly $250 entry fee, plus multiple contingency bonus programs and over 100% payback leads to a buzz among Texas’ anglers. Sights are set on the new Texas Team Trail event on Belton Lake, as well as the championship tournament in October on Falcon Lake.
On-site registration is set for Friday, May 3, from 4-7 p.m. at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area (BLORA). We ask that one team member attend. The tournament will launch Saturday, May 4, at safe light from Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area and weigh-in will begin at the same location at 3 p.m.

Bethel University Closes Out With Big Win On Kentucky Lake For Aca Championship Series
Bethel University Closes out ACA Collegiate Bass Fishing Open with Wire-to-wire Victory
Paris, Tennessee (April 20, 2013) - The Bethel University team of Cody Ross, Dewey Swims, Zach Parker, and Matthew Roberts set the bar high on Day One of the ACA Collegiate Bass Fishing Open and never looked back. Anchored by Cody Ross' 10.44 pound brute on the first day of competition, the Bethel Wildcats proved they know a thing or two about Kentucky Lake. They backed up their day one catch with another six fish limit totaling 21.36 pounds on Saturday, giving them a total of 52.78 lbs. and more than enough for a victory.
Local knowledge and teamwork were the key to their win and their efforts resulted in over $2,000 in cash and prizes, including Cabela's gift cards, cash, and new Temple Fork Outfitters rods for all four winning teammates.
According to Dewey Swims, "We all fish here a lot and we know the lake well, but our communication was important in this event. We were staying in touch with each other sharing information and truly working as a team and that made the difference."
Teamwork was obvious, as fellow Wildcat teammates, Jacob Hardy, Jake Lawrence, Randall Morris, and Dalton Wilson came within a pound and a half of victory, with a two day total of 51.33 lbs. Their catch was good for approximately $1,300 in cash and prizes from ACA and their partners, including Cabela's and Temple Fork Outfitters.
All the Bethel anglers used a variety of tactics to stay with the fish throughout the event. They caught bass, including the Big Bass of the event, flipping shoreline cover on day one, but as that bite faded, they worked together and made the necessary adjustments to stay on the fish.
Jacob Hardy added, "We knew the falling water would pull our shallow fish back to staging areas, so we started keying in on areas next to spawning flats. Rattle traps around those flats with grass on them ended up being the key in finishing strong."
It is a good thing the Bethel Wildcats finished strong, because the other local team, the Murray State Racers, was working hard to take the title of Open Champs back to Murray, Kentucky.
Ultimately the Murray State team of Cody Santel, Justin Berger, Justin Graben, and Vincent Campisano fell just short, but finished in a respectable third place with a total of 46.24 lbs.
Teamwork is the whole concept behind the ACA Collegiate Bass Fishing Open, and like Bethel, it was a big part of the Racers' success.
Justin Graben of Murray State summed it up best, "The key to our success was collaboration. It took all four to figure out the pattern and once we did we all worked it together to catch these fish. It has been a great event for us."
The Racers also took home new Temple Fork Outfitters rods, along with $400 cash for their catch.
Fourth place, Tennessee Tech University, put together the best rally of the event, weighing the largest limit of the second day at 24.83 lbs. making for a total combined catch of 45.16 lbs. The team consisted of two boats and four anglers, Matt Townson, Will Stansell, Bryson Dalton, and Joe Ellis.
According to Joe, there were some missed opportunity that hurt the Golden Eagles, including some large fish that broke off during the tournament, but their second day rebound helped with the disappointment.
Matt Townson went on to add, "Our team keyed in on an Alabama Rig bite late on day one and we let our partners know about it. We started the second day on those fish and we camped on them together all day Saturday. It was exciting to be catching fish and doing it all in sight of each other, it kept both of our boats fired up all day and we had a blast."
The top five was rounded out by the two-time BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Champions, the North Carolina State Bass Pack. The Bass Pack saw their weights fall nearly 10 pounds between their day one catch of 27.46 lbs and their day two catch of 17.53 lbs., but collectively their 44.99 lbs was enough for a solid finish.
Despite not taking home another title the Bass Pack was thrilled with their time in Paris, Tennessee. According to President, Paul Owens, "This has been an unbelievable week on Kentucky Lake. We've never caught as many fish as we have since we arrived. This has to be the most awesome fishery we've been on since I've fished with NC State. I'll be back just to fish, that's for sure."

Brad McLaurin and Mike Marchant topped the field this past Saturday on Falls Lake launching out of Ledgerock. Brad and Mike brought in 5 fat Falls bass weighing 24.97 lbs taking 1st Place plus the 1st BONUS $. They also weighed in a 6.83 lb bass good enough to take 2nd BF. All total they took home $1,912.00!
Mike Riggs and Doug Stallings claimed 2nd with 5 bass weighing 23.80 lbs. They also collected the 2nd BONUS pushing their total winnings up to $841.00.
3rd went to Larry Godfrey and John McLelland with 5 bass weighing 20.86 lbs. They weighed in a 6.91 lb bass good enough for 1st BF. They received a total of $777.00.
Coming in 4th place was Stump Bledsoe and Glen Elliott with another limit weighing 20.68 lbs and they earned $300.00.

Cherry Hoping For Cool Down And Wind For Bassmaster Elite On Bull Shoals Lake
Hank Cherry of Maiden, NC will be fishing the Bassmaster Elite Series event this weekend
While many anglers this time of year hope for a warming trend to bring the bass up shallow, Hank Cherry is hoping the weather front moving across Bull Shoals Lake cools things down, especially if it comes with a little wind.
After a few days of practice for the Bassmaster Elite Series Bull Shoals Quest which begins Thursday, the Maiden, N.C., pro characterized fishing on Bull Shoals to fishing “in a bathtub.”
“It is beyond clear. You can see down 25 feet,” he said.
Thunderstorms were expected to roll across the 45,000 acre lake on the White River in in the Ozark Mountains of northern Arkansas and southern Missouri Wednesday, bringing a drop in temperatures and the wind Cherry wants for his fishing strategy.
“I caught quite a few fish on the second day of practice and right now I think I can catch them if we get the kind of weather they are talking about. I'd like to see what the storms and colder weather do to get the water temperature back down,” said Cherry who is fishing Bull Shoals for the first time.
“On the main lake the water temperature has been 56-57 degrees and in the backs of the coves it's been up to 65 degrees,” he noted.
But the main factor, he said, will be the wind.
“I think I am fishing deeper than most of the guys. I'm fishing a lot of places like where a main channel bumps up on points and where little ditches come through, things like that,” he said.
“I've not seen a lot of guys in practice doing what I am doing. I'm pretty much making six or seven casts on a spot and then I'm gone.”
Cherry has been riding high since qualifying for his first Bassmaster Classic by winning the final 2012 Southern Open on Smith Lake at Jasper, Ala., by one ounce last October, after moving to B.A.S.S. following a successful career in FLW competition. He finished third in the Classic on Grand Lake of the Cherokees at Tulsa, Okla., in February.
The win also propelled him into the Bassmaster Elite Series this year where he is currently 5th in the Elite Rookie Standings. In the two elite tournaments he has fished so far this year he placed 40th in the series opener on the Sabine River March 14-17 and followed that with a 68th place finish on Falcon Lake March 21-15.
Hoping to climb in the rookie points, Cherry said he is anxious to get past Bull Shoals and on to the next Elite tournament.
“Once we get out of here, things will be pretty much normal for me,” he said, noting that future tournaments are on lakes more suited to his style of fishing.
“I am looking forward to West Point (May 2-5). I like that lake a lot. I've only fished one tournament there, but I have had some very good times there,” he said.

"It's going to be one of the biggest tournaments in the Southeast," said Jeb Bell about the upcoming Kicks 99 Hooked on Country bass tournament to be held out of Wildwood Park on Clarks Hill Lake Saturday, April 27th.
The team tourney features a $15,000 top prize for an entry fee of $125 per boat.
That type of payout will certainly draw anglers from far and wide. "Last year we had some from North Carolina," said Bell. "We had 278 boats and it took about 18 or 19 pounds to win. This year it should take that much or a little more. I imagine the bass will be somewhere around the beds, maybe coming off, maybe still on them, but they'll be up there somewhere."
This year's event will certainly draw at least one fisherman from a distant state. How about . . . Alaska?
"We're going to have one, maybe two of the guys from the boat The Northwest off of The Deadliest Catch TV show here at the weigh in to meet and greet the people who come to watch it," said Bell.

All it takes is one good fish. Being a winner in an Oakley Big Bass Tournament depends solely on that one fish and whether it is the biggest weighed in at the hour it is brought to the scales.
No cumulative weight. No tour to fish. No pro competition to beat. Just catch the right fish and weigh it at the right time and you are a winner.
Your fish could be worth $150, $500, $1,000. It could even earn you a brand new bass boat if it's the biggest fish caught over the two-day weekend.
That is the reason the Oakley Big Bass Tour attracts such large fields to the tournaments it holds around the country, and the Oakley Blue Ridge Big Bass Classic on Smith Mountain Lake this weekend is no exception.
Last year the tournament drew more than 500 anglers.
“We've got the 4th Annual Blue Ridge Classic this weekend at Smith Mountain and the Tony Stewart Big Bass Classic on Lake Norman the next weekend,” said Oakley Big Bass Classic tournament director Mark Jones. “We had a record number of entries for both events last year and we are expecting a big field for both again this year.”
Entry fees for the tournaments are $100 for one day and $150 for both days. There are seven hourly payouts each day with five places paid per hour. Based on a minimum of 400 entries, the payouts are $1,000 for the biggest bass each hour, $500 for second place, $300 for third, $200 for fourth and $150 for fifth. The grand prize for the largest fish weighed over the weekend is a 2013 Nitro Z7 powered by Mercury 150, with Tandem Trailer and Dual Console Upgrades, all valued at $30,000.
Phillip Cox won the 2012 Blue Ridge Big Bass Classic on Smith Mountain Lake with a 7.18-pound big bass to claim the Nitro Z7 grand prize.
“Registration will be held at Bridgewater Plaza Marina from 12 to 7 p.m. Friday, with online registration taken until midnight Friday at oakleybigbass.com,” Jones said.

Anglers Line Up To Be Boaters For Warriors On The Water On Jordan Lake
Nobody wins money in the annual WOW Tournament, but bass anglers will stay up all night long to make sure they get their entry in.
“We all tournament fish and we all want to win money, but this is not a money tournament and guys say they look forward to this tournament all year long,” said Hal Abshire, tournament director for WOW, which stands for Warriors on the Water. “They honestly get it, they know it is not about them. Ir’s about the military men and women who are in the boats with them.”
The tournament teams military personnel from the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force, with civilian anglers who regularly fish bass tournaments. The 8th Annual Warriors on the Water Tournament will be held Friday on North Carolina's Jordan Lake.
“We open the sign-up period on 9-11. We started at midnight last 9-11 and by 8 or 9 o'clock the next morning we had more than 80 boaters signed up. It was unreal,” Abshire said.
There are more than 150 boaters signed up for the tournament, with some coming from as far away as Pennsylvania, Abshire said.
There are three major events before the tournament, he added, the Icebreaker and a Little Heroes Tour Wednesday and a VIP Day Thursday.
On Wednesday morning several of the boaters trailer their rigs to the two elementary schools on Fort Bragg. They park their boats in the parking lot where the kids can come out and meet them and see them demonstrate fishing techniques and lures.
“A lot of those kids' moms or dads are deployed. It is a treat to see the children's eyes,” Abshire said.
Then on Thursday, Abshire will lead sponsors, volunteers and some of the fishermen to Fort Bragg and Hope Field.
“We want them to see what the military people do and then we bring the military people in on Friday and I tell them I want you to see what the fishermen do,” Abshire said.
Two special guests will appear at the festivities this year, Bassmaster Elite Pro Mark Menendez and former Elite Angler Jarett Edwards, host of “Jarrett Edwards Outdoors” on The Sporsman Channel and the World Fishing Network, HD.
Menendez is taking a leave of absence from the Elite Series this year while his wife undergoes treatment for cancer and Edwards is a cancer survivor, having undergone successful treatment for Hodgkins disease which knocked him off the Elite Tour.
The week ends Friday with the tournament where the top five teams are presented with trophies and gifts. Another special presentation is made to the winner of the Big Bass Award, which named in honor of a fallen soldier.
“The Big Bass Award has the fallen soldier's name on it and we invite his family to attend the presentation,” Abshire said.

This tournament was held on Lookout Shoals Lake on April 13, 2013. Jeremy Baity and Rob Wright took 1st place with 20lbs-13 ozs! Finishing in 2nd place was Butch Zadlo and Brian Lewis. They brought 20lbs-4ozs to the scales, including a Big Fish that weighed 8lbs-6ozs.
3rd place went to Brent White with 19lbs-9ozs.
Next up will be Lake Hickory/Whittenburg ramp May 4th. This will be an open tournament! Please spread the word if you can - we could use a lot of boats at Hickory. This should be an awesome event. Registration starts at 5:30am, all money paid back except $10 which goes to the championship. We will also be drawing for some nice prizes.

Mark Daniels Of Fairfield, Ca Wins 2013 Tbf National Championship On Grand Lake!

Mark Daniels Jr., of Fairfield, Calif., saw his life’s work as well as his life’s passion validated as he took home the title of 2013 Federation National Champion. Bolstered by a total catch of 62 pounds, 4 ounces, including 19 pounds, 4 ounces during Saturday’s final day of competition, Daniels walked away with the tournament title as well as the coveted $100,000 “Living the Dream” prize package.
“I’m just so excited right now; I can’t even really think,” Daniels said. “After catching that huge bag on day two I knew I had a shot to win this thing.”
Daniels caught 18 pounds, 6 ounces on day one and a 24-pound, 10-ounce bag on day two to grab the top qualifying spot heading into the final round. Today, Daniels was able to finally seal the deal.
“My travel partner Tom Shimabukuro and I found fish A-rigging in practice that I thought could potentially be winning fish,” Daniels’s said. “Then, the final day of practice, me and Ben went out and we kind of solidified that.”
Daniels was paired with Ben Wright of Peru, N.Y., who would go on to become the national champion co-angler.
“We found a bunch of areas that looked similar and I went in and pulled a fish off of each one of those spots,” Daniels said. “I patterned the entire week off that.”
Daniels fished Drowning Creek down on the south end of the lake near the dam the whole week.
“I pulled off on practice because I knew I would just come and hit all of those spots during the tournament days,” he said. “I did that and just capitalized on all those bites. I didn’t lose many fish this week.
"Once I mentally understood what I thought the bigger fish were holding on, I just created my own milk run during the day,” Daniels’s continued. “I probably hit 25 different spots on that creek, hitting them 10 to 25 minutes at the most and then picking up and moving on to another spot.”
Amazingly enough, this was Daniels' first trip to the national championship.
“I’ve been fishing all my life – bass fishing since I was 11 and it’s literally a dream come true,” Daniels said. “To come here and win it, win the ‘Living the Dream’ package, a new Ranger boat –it’s going to take a week for it to hit me.”
His journey this week seemed to fit like pieces of a puzzle.
“I truly believe I have a gift from God to fish, not just me those that compete on the tour and other circuits too,” Daniels said. “My gift is fishing; this is what I do. It was just my time.”

Wright scores national championship title in Co-angler Division
Federation National Champion co-angler Ben Wright of Peru, N.Y., parlayed a final-day catch of 15 pounds 9 ounces into a three-day total weight of 50 pounds, 13 ounces. His overall effort was good enough to secure the prestigious national championship title as well as earn a berth in the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup.
However, Wright earned something else as well – netting TBF’s new “Living the Dream” co-angler package.
“In fishing there’s a lot of luck - there’s a lot of skill and there’s a lot of luck; and this week I had it,” Wright said. “I knew I was only 11 ounces behind (coming into today). I knew I was in a position to win it.”
But the road to the championship title was hardly a cakewalk. Wright struggled, catching two keepers in his first two days of practice until day three when he got paired with Daniels, the eventual boater champion.
“We just started to work some things out, put some things together,” he said.
Wright caught all his fish on an A-rig equipped with a 5-inch, white, curly-tailed grub.
“I seemed to get bit better than my other two boaters just following them in for the second pass on things. They were great fishermen, but I think maybe the fish were keying in on the white. I don’t know, but I got the fish to prove it.”
Wright said he owes Daniels a debt of gratitude as well.
“I give a lot of credit to Mark, a lot of credit,” Wright said. “If nothing else, what it did is get my head right. I was struggling in practice and it’s tough to go into a big tournament like this struggling. It put my head in a position where I said, ‘Okay, things can work. I’m going to catch fish.’ I just had to go out and execute.”

In addition to their respective tournament titles and cash prizes, both national champion anglers earned coveted spots in the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup and the 2013 BFL All-American. Daniels, the national champion boater, will receive the $100,000 "Living the Dream" package. He will literally “live his dream” fishing as an FLW Tour pro for a year with use of a wrapped Ranger boat and Chevrolet truck. He will also receive travel expenses, sponsor merchandise and prizes.
For his efforts, Daniels also won the Ranger Cup contingency award – a new Ranger Z518 boat and trailer. Robert Rikard of Lexington, S.C., the top Ranger Cup qualifier in the Co-angler Division, won $5,000 cash.

Maryland Sets Positive Precedent For Improving Fishing Access
Lack of access to fishable waters is commonly cited as one of the top concerns among anglers. In an effort to help turn the tide and provide better public access to Maryland’s thousands of miles of rivers, streams and shorelines, Governor O’Malley recently signed into law a bill (HB 797) to promote safe recreational fishing, canoe and kayak access along the state’s bridges and roads. This is a tremendous victory for anglers and can be used as a model for other states to incorporate. KeepAmericaFishing™ wishes to thank the legislators, fishing and conservation organizations, and interested citizens who helped support this bill’s passage. KeepAmericaFishing members supported this legislation and we thank you for helping make passage possible.
Maryland’s 10,000 miles of rivers and streams, as well as its 4,000 miles of tidal shoreline, can be difficult to access because adjacent roads and bridges can lack safe shoulders, pull-off areas or parking. These areas often were constructed without regards to access and angler safety. Oftentimes access can be provided at minimal or no cost, but is not incorporated in project planning.
HB 797 addresses this problem and will enhance waterway access by requiring state and local transportation departments to consider providing, where reasonable and cost-effective, waterway access in roadway construction or reconstruction projects.
Before being signed into law by the Governor, this non-controversial, bipartisan and cost-effective legislation passed the House of Delegates by an overwhelming 130-3 margin and the Senate by 47-0 margin. The bill was supported by KeepAmericaFishing, the Maryland Legislative Sportsmen’s Foundation, the Chesapeake Conservancy, Maryland Bass Angler’s Sportsmen’s Society, and many other fishing and conservation organizations, as well as the Maryland Department of Transportation and Department of Natural Resources.
HB 797 would help promote outdoor recreational opportunities for families; greatly improve safety for recreational users and motorists alike; help stimulate the economies and livability of local communities; and enhance the health and quality of life of our citizens. Amateur Angler Mark Zacher Wins Bassmaster Sweeps To Fish With Ike!
Mark Zacher has a morning ritual. Before he goes to work in Rapid City, S.D., he sits down at the computer every day and logs on to Bassmaster.com. That time online paid off with his win of the Bassmaster.com “Fish with Ike” Sweepstakes that ended March 15.
“I think I entered every day,” Zacher said. “If I missed one day, it was just one. I always enter the contests [on Bassmaster.com]. I’m a big supporter of B.A.S.S., and I think they do a wonderful job, but I never expected to win, nor have I ever won anything like this.
“You can imagine how shocked I was when I got the call that I won. I hung up and called back half an hour later. I asked, ‘Is this for real?’ I couldn’t believe it. It’s still a shocker.”
Zacher’s prize is a fishing trip with Bassmaster Elite Series pro Michael Iaconelli, part of a package of prizes, including cash, gear and gifts that adds up to almost $5,000. He will fish with the high-profile New Jersey pro on the Monday after the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on the Mississippi River in La Crosse, Wis., June 20-23.
“Mike is one of my favorite pros,” Zacher said. “Of the five I really like, he’s one of them. I’ve read up on him and know what his strengths are. I feel like I’m a versatile fisherman, and I hope I can hang with him. I want to show up and get out there and fish and have a great time.”
Always an avid angler, Zacher got serious about bass fishing around 1989 and began fishing at the Bassmaster club level. He won both Rookie of the Year and Angler of the Year his first year, an affirmation that encouraged him to continue the sport.
“I wanted to do more bass fishing when I was younger, but I was raising a family and focused on that,” said Zacher, who competes at the B.A.S.S. Nation and Bassmaster Opens levels, often with his close friend Monty Fralick, Bassmaster Elite Series pro Jami Fralick’s father.
Zacher, who works in the parts department of a freightliner dealership in Rapid City, has a busy June ahead. The first week, he’ll fish a state tournament; the third week, he fishes with Iaconelli; and the last week, he celebrates his 30thwedding anniversary with his wife, Verlene.
Zacher’s father, Francis, has been an important influence in his bass fishing.
“He inspired me when I started doing tournaments,” Zacher said. “He’s a big bass fisherman, and he gave me confidence. Those are special moments when we fish together.”
In addition to a fishing trip with Iaconelli, which includes airfare, a rental car and a two-night hotel stay, Zacher won $500 in spending money, $900 in gear from Berkley and Abu Garcia, $500 in gear from Rapala and a chance to attend The Bass University.
“This has been very exciting for me,” Zacher said. “I’ve never been able to fish at a professional level, but winning this trip is like winning the Bassmaster Classic. It’s something I’ll never forget. It’s a dream come true.”
Beginning April 1, a new Bassmaster.com Sweepstakes began for a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to “Fish With Skeet!” on a fishery to be chosen by Elite Series pro Skeet Reese of California. 39 teams showed up for the 3rd qualifying tournament of the 2013 CBS Quality Cars NC Triangle Area Team Bass Spring Mini Trail. It was a cool morning at blastoff with temps of 50 and wind at 10 to 15. It almost felt like it was gonna snow again!! The wind finally calmed down after blastoff and it turned out to be a nice day! Highs for the day were in the low 70's.
Matt Lucey and Nathan Reeves took 1st place honors with 5 bass weighing 15.88 lbs. They won 1st place money of $965 and $385 for 1st place TWT for a grand total of $1,350. Jerry Marshburn & Rick Ohlson (15.27 lbs.) won 2nd place, 2nd place TWT & 2nd place big fish for a total of $808. Big fish for the day was caught by the team of Michael & Steve Hatley weighing 4.86 lbs. The big fish were in the shallows.117 fish were weighed in for a total weight of 281 pounds. Most fish were caught in shallow water mainly flipping plastics & jigs and some were caught on spinnerbaits. Water temps ranged from 58 to 67 degrees. The bass that were weighe d in looked as pretty and healthy as we've seen in the last 5 years! All the females looked to be in the prespawn period and full of roe. Looks like Kerr is coming back to life! I want to thank all the anglers that participated and that support this trail.

Unc Charlotte Dominates Carhartt Bassmaster College Series East Regional On Lake Norman
At the onset of the event, Shane Lehew of UNC Charlotte predicted that 29 pounds would likely win the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series East Regional on Lake Norman. He and teammate Eric Self were the only team to exceed those expectations.
UNC Charlotte brought in 35-4 during two days of competition, including the Carhartt Big Bass weighing 5-11, the runner-up Carhartt Big Bass weighing 5-5 and the Bass Pro Nitro Big Bag of the tournament weighing 18-9. The Carhartt Big Bass and Bass Pro Nitro Big Bag both came on the final day.
“That’s probably the biggest bag I’ve ever weighed in on Norman,” Lehew said.
Lehew and Self are both considered locals, living and going to school in Charlotte, N.C. The duo was favored coming into the event and didn’t disappoint, winning by nearly a 9-pound margin.
“We caught all our fish throwing a Senko and flipping soft plastics on beds,” said Self.
UNC Charlotte had several fish located on beds, but the weather on the eve of Day 1 turned south and heavy rains made several of their beds invisible under muddy waters. The team managed 16-11 on Day 1 despite losing a 4- to 5-pound fish and having to release a 6-pounder that was foul hooked while sight fishing.
Lehew and Self planned to start on that big fish on Day 1, but when they arrived, they found another boat already on her. The team from UNC Charlotte returned later to find her available, but hard to catch. After spending an hour on her, they left and caught a limit of about 9 pounds off beds. When they returned, they settled in for the long haul, and it wasn’t long before she started showing signs of aggression.
With ESPNU cameras rolling, Lehew finally convinced the fish to bite after investing more than two hours into her in the course of two days.
“That was pretty cool. I was glad it bit again,” Lehew said. “We spent a lot of time on it. A lot of wasted footage. Probably spent two hours on it today and another 30 minutes on it yesterday.
“At the end of the day, we went back to where we started on Day 1 and the water had cleared up,” Lehew said. “We ended up catching three more heavier than 3 pounds in there.”
“He caught that big one on a Big Bite Baits Fightin’ Frog,” Self said. “That was a good 30 second clip. Well worth the wait on our part.”
Zachary Blalock and Kyle Albers of East Carolina finished second with 26-1 for two days.
“We tried to find bed fish in practice but couldn’t find any good ones,” Blalock said. “The water muddied up and that helped us. We could get a little closer to them and just flipped to catch cruisers and bedding fish.”
Virginia Tech’s Carson Rejzer and Chris Carwile finished third, qualifying Rejzer for his third straight Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship and winning Carwile his first berth on his first attempt.
“With the weather yesterday, all our bedding areas muddied up,” Rejzer said. “We couldn’t see the fish. Today, with the clear weather, we were able to get on the ones I marked in practice, and that’s when it really came together.”

Duckett Fishing Moves Headquarters To Guntersville

Cold Front Stalls Bass Migration To The Banks Of Beaver Lake Before Flw Tour Major
The third FLW Tour Major of 2013 on Beaver Lake this weekend is probably going to miss the best week of fishing by four or five days, said Shelby, N.C., pro Bryan Thrift.
“The water temperature was in the upper 50s and low 60s and the fish are wanting to spawn. They are just not up yet and if we were not getting a cold front this week, I think they would be up there,” thrift said.
The weather in northwest Arkansas was headed towards springtime but shifted back to a winter feel at mid-week, with temperatures in low to mid-30s overnight, dropping below freezing Wednesday night, with temperatures predicted in the low 50s Thursday, and winds blowing from 10 to 25 miles per hour. The weather will finally begin warming to the mid-50s Friday and slightly Saturday to the mid-60s and Sunday up to the low 70s.
Before the cold front moved in Thrift had found fishing in practice “fair to decent,” he said. He said he had two good days when the fish were biting, but they started slacking off by Tuesday.
“I haven't figured out a strategy for the tournament yet,” Thrift said. “But, it's probably going to be normal Beaver Lake fishing. You will just have to cover a lot of water and hope you run across one or two good fish each day.”
Thrift has a pretty solid record on Beaver Lake in his seven years as an FLW pro. He has earned a check in all five appearances, with three top 25 finishes including a first place in March 2011.
“I've done pretty good here in the past, but on this lake it is hard to say what you are going to do in a tournament. You just never know,” said Thrift who has won more than $1 million in FLW Outdoors tournaments in his career, with five wins and 29 top 10 appearances.
Thrift has qualified for the Forrest Wood Cup all six years since he turned pro, with five top 15 finishes in the championship, including last year's third place on Georgia's Lake Lanier. He was Angler of the Year in 2010 and has never finished below 8th place in the annual rankings.
At this point in 2013, with Beaver Lake the halfway point in the season, Thrift is 10th in the AOY standings, a position he hopes to hold or even improve on this week.
Although he has already qualified for the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup by finishing 5th in the AOY standings in the FLW Open Division in 2012, Thrift has his eye on another points championship.
“It's been a good year so far, but I need to keep it rolling. I need another top 10 here, but that might be a shot in the dark,” he said. “But I always try to do the best I can in a tournament. You always want to make sure you stay up there and give yourself a chance to make Angler of the Year.”

Co-Angler Brings Wealth Of Experience To Sc Bfl On Santee Cooper
DJ McEachern expects to see some big bags on Santee Cooper this weekend
For a guy who is only 19, DJ McEachern is pretty confident of what the fish will be doing in the Santee Cooper Lakes this weekend when he is fishing the South Carolina Division BFL tournament.
“There are going to be a bunch of bedding fish and I am sure the lower lake will be on fire because it always is this time of year,” he said.
If he sounds experienced, even though he is only a couple of years out of high school, it's because bass fishing is such a major part of his life – and has been since before he reached his teens.
The Columbia, S.C., college student has competed in the The S.C. Bass Federation's Junior Division State Title Tournament every year since 2004. In 2008 and 2009 he was the TBF of SC Youth State champion, finishing 17th in the world in 2008 and 11th in the world in 2009.
He won the St. Andrews Junior Bass Club Angler of the year Award in 2005, 2006 and 2008. He finished second in points in the BFL S.C. Division in 2011 and was also second in points as a co-angler in the TBF-SC. He finished 4th as a co-angler in the BFL Regional on Kerr Reservoir last October, qualifying for the BFL All-American this June June 27-29 on Nickajack Lake in Chattanooga, Tenn. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
That, said McEachern, is what he has been aiming for most of his life.
A sophomore at Midlands Tech, who plans to transfer to the University of South Carolina this fall and fish for the USC Fishing Team, McEachern said his long-range goal is to fish the BASS Opens and try to qualify for the Elite Series.
“I am not too worried about that right now. As soon as I get my truck fixed I plan to start fishing some open tournaments like the CATT Trail and I hope to fish the BFLs as a boater next season,” he said.
As for this weekend at Santee, McEachern said it will probably take 28 pounds to win the SC BFL Tournament, probably 19 or 20 pounds for the co-angler winner.
“Whoever wins, I think, will be looking at the fish. They will be sight fishing for bedding fish and catching a few in between on a swim bait. They will just have to beat everybody else there to catch them.”

Bass 'about To Pop' Just In Time For Sc Carolina Bass Challenge On Lake Wateree

It's time for the spawn and the bass “are about to pop” just in time for the Carolina Bass Challenge South Carolina Division tournament on Lake Wateree this Saturday, said CBC owner/director Brett Collins.
Not only should the catches be outstanding, the number of anglers is expected to surpass last year's record 118 teams for the Wateree tournament, Collins said.
“Each CBC qualifier has seen a 40 percent to 50 percent increase over last year's numbers,” he noted.
And while, it might be difficult to exceed the catch in the Carolina Anglers Team Trail Spring Trail on Lake Wateree this year, it could happen with the bass moving to spawn.
“This past spring, first place in the Wateree Spring Trail averaged 24 pounds and our largest bag weighed 27.50 pounds,” said Collins, who also is owner/director for the CATT Series in the two Carolinas. “We had several bass over 8 pounds and also the first bass over 10 pounds that I have ever seen come from lake Wateree. The tournaments featured multiple teams with 20 pounds or better.”
Collins said the bass are starting to move to the bed and “should be rarin' to go” with this week's forecast for the high 80s.”
Heavy pollen on the water will make it hard to see the bass, he said.
With water temperatures in the 60s, Collins said the bass will be “shallow as dirt” all over the lake this weekend.
“I think the whole lake will be in a bedding mode. With the cool weather we've had until now those bass are about to pop.”
Lake experience will likely play a major role in the outcome Saturday because of heavy fishing pressure, he said.
“Wateree can be tough at times, so look for the guys who have spent many years chasing the bass at Wateree to do well.”
After Lake Wateree there is one tournament left on the CBC-SC schedule – Clarks Hill on May 4.
On the CBC website, Collins noted that entries are being accepted for both the CBC-SC and CBC-NC championships, plus the 2013 CBC Classic at Lake Murray Oct. 26-27.
“Please keep in mind in order for a SC CBC team (2) to qualify for the SC Divisional Championship on Lake Hartwell the team (both partners) must fish 3 SC qualifiers together. You cannot qualify for the Championship by fishing a combination of 3 qualifiers in both Divisions. If one partner has entered 3 SC qualifiers, that partner will be allowed to enter the Championship solo.
“The Lake Murray Classic field will consist of the teams who entered the SC & NC Championships. In order to enter the 2013 CBC Lake Murray Classic a team must enter a Divisional championship.”

75 teams showed up for the 4th qualifying tournament of the 2013 Boats Unlimited NC Team Tournament Bass Trail. What a beautiful day we had and the the bite was on fire! 40 degrees in the morning and about 64 in the afternoon with NNE 5-10 mph wind up to about 2 and then light winds for the rest of the afternoon.
Scott Dunn & Stewart Adams of Four Oaks blasted the field taking 1st place honors with 5 bass weighing 28.15 lbs. They won the 1st place money and the BOATS UNLIMITED NC 1st place $1,000 bonus for a grand total of $2,320.
Josh & Jesse Wise won 2nd place (25.38lbs.) plus 1st place TWT and took home $2,040. Tim Goss & Jeff Vincent took Big Fish honors, winning $1,022 with a beautiful 9.26 lb. hawg!
207 fish were weighed in for a total weight of 771 pounds. 3 weighed over 9 lbs! Numerous bass weighing 6 to 8 lbs. were also weighed in and the fish were as pretty and healthy as we've seen in a long time! Most fish were caught from 2 to 8 feet of water on a variety of baits including crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs and plastics for the most part. Water temps averaged 54 degrees.

Team hauls in over 30 pounds for victory with only four fish
NORMAN, Okla. (April 8, 2013) – Clay Lippincott, of Goodyear, Ariz., and Shawn Carnahan, of Queen Creek, Ariz., brought 30.59 pounds of largemouth bass to the scales to win the second event of the 2013 season of the Texas Team Trail presented by Cabela’s on April 6 at Lake Ray Roberts. The winning anglers took home a new fully-rigged Stratos 189VLO with an Evinrude 150 HO package, valued at $30,000.

Due to its popularity and potential for high payouts, the Texas Team Trail is drawing anglers from surrounding states. The winning team made the long drive from Arizona to compete in the event. The anglers ran seven miles from the launch and fought high winds in a creek arm, flipping soft baits around brushy trees.
“We only had one fishing spot that we thought we could catch a few fish in,” said Lippincott. “So that one spot is where we spent our entire day.”
Despite only bringing four fish to the weigh-in, the 11.04 lunker bass landed by the anglers helped them top a field of nearly 200 teams and added an additional $985 for winning the Big Bass Award. Overall, the anglers took home over $33,000 for their efforts.
“We couldn’t believe that we had four fish for over 30 pounds,” said Lippincott. “The Texas Team Trail is a great circuit and well worth the time to drive all the way from Arizona. We can’t wait for the next event on Belton Lake.”
Tim Coyle, of Wichita, Kan., and Mark Ladd, of Greenwood, Ark., weighed a total of 26.33 pounds to take home the $4,925 second-place prize. The anglers added $1,287 in Angler’s Advantage cash.
Third-place finishers Jeremy Lambert and Keith Bryan, both of Decatur, Texas, fought through a dead battery to bring 26.03 pounds to the scales. The anglers fished jigs on the south end of the lake and reported losing a 10-pound fish. The team’s winnings totaled over $4,000.
The Lake Ray Roberts event was the second of four 2013 qualifying events that guarantee a fully-rigged, 18-foot tournament-equipped bass boat package as first place prize – in this case a Stratos 189VLO with an Evinrude 150 HO package, valued at $30,000.
The next stop for the Texas Team Trail is Belton Lake on May 4. Competitors who register for the Belton Lake event by midnight of Thursday, May 2, will be allowed to pre-fish on Friday, May 3, and entered into a drawing for a free Power Pole shallow water anchor system.

We wrapped up another solid spring trail at Lake Wateree this past Saturday with 43 teams entering the Spring Final. We had 5 qualifiers as usual with and bad weather still didn’t keep the guys away from chasing those crazy Wateree bass.
Ken McFarland and Darryl Watson are two of the regulars on the CATT Trail at Lake Wateree. Both started fishing CATT in the 90’s and have had their share of good days on the lake. This past Saturday was one of the better days! Ken and Darryl weighed in 5 bass at 22.32 lbs and took 1st Place along with the BONUS $. They also were fishing out of Ken’s 2012 SKeeter ZX20 with a 250 Yamaha SHO which put another $1,000.00 in their pocket thanks to the Skeeter Real Money Program. All total they took home $4,640.00!
Ron Catoe fishing solo brought in another sack of fat Wateree bass weighing up at 21.69 lbs. Ron took home $1,455.00.
Alan Fletcher and Danny Johnson brought in the same exact L. Canupp weight as Ron (21.69 lbs) but the BF broke the tie. With their 3rd Place finish Alan and Danny collected $1,000.00.
Another team who has been fishing CATT since 1997 is David F. Canupp and David …and they can still catch em! Their best 5 bass weighed in at 21.30 lbs and they took home $500.00.
Mark Healon and Tony Truett finished in 5th with 5 bass weighing 21.06 lbs. They received $300.00.
Tracy and Drew Pope took 6th with 5 bass weighing 19.48 lbs and they collected $250.00.
Pat Clark and Donald Hinson earned $200.00 for their 7th place finish with 5 bass weighing 18.49 lbs.
Last money paying place went to Scott Floyd and Bob Weaver with a limit weighing 18.41 lbs. They received $150.00.
Steve Phillips and Freddie Faulkenberry weighed the 2nd BF at 7.03 lbs and they claimed $126.00.

Collins Bass for Cash Champs Richard Cooper and Allan White proved that Kerr is finally back..............their 19.09 Haul yesterday along with 37 out of 47 teams weighing in fish says several things. The first is that anglers are beginning to see the OLD KERR re-surface after 4 to 5 years of really bad production. The fish caught yesterday were extremely healthy and the BF of 7+ Lbs hasn't been seen in many, many moons! There were several very high quality 5 and 6 LB kickers that looked great as well. The Lake is at a good level and water temps finally coming up to the high 50's. Collins did a great job of running and feeding everyone during the weigh-in. Weather was finally pleasant and allowed everyone to hang around and enjoy the process instead of trying to dodge the weather! Bone Takes Lead At Bassmaster Open On Douglas
Pat Bone posts another 20-plus to take the lead heading the final competition round of the Bassmaster Southern Open on Douglas Lake.
Bone has a total weight of 43-02.
David Mullins is the only other angler to bust 20 pounds on back-to-back days. He is 2nd with 41-11.
Aaron Martens caught the day's big bass at 7-7.
If you like star power, Elite Series pros Greg Vinson, 2012 Classic Champ Chris Lane, and Ott Defoe made the cut. Defoe brought 21-8 to sneak in at 12th following an 8-pound, 1-ounce limit yesterday.
FLW Tour standout Glenn Browne is 8th and will fish tomorrow.
Christiana Bradley proved she can mix it up with the boys. The lovely lady from Virginia enjoyed much success on the now-defunct Women's Bassmaster Tour. In 11th place with 29-11, Bradley has a real chance to become the highest-placing female angler in any co-ed Bassmaster event ever. That record currently belongs to Diana Clark who finished 5th in a tourney a couple of years ago.
Bradley has already gained a measure of respect, something all competitive anglers seek, by virtue of making the cut in what has proven to be a tough tourney. Robert Tindell Leads Everstart On Seminole With 27-02
As with the Bassmaster Open on Douglas Lake, the top 7 pros in the EverStart tourney on Seminole all have 20 pounds or better. And, as with the Open, Everstart anglers faced wet weather and a lake that is behind schedule, in terms of fishing patterns, due a recent cold snap.
One difference between the two tourneys is that Robert Tindell leads on Seminole with 27-2, which is a little more than the 24 and change that's leading on Douglas. Also, while 32 pros failed to catch a keeper on Douglas (nearly 19%), only 7 blanked on Seminole (less than 6%).
A bunch of bass are still bedding on Seminole but conditions today did not favor sight fishing. Still, a few guys likely caught spawning fish. A number of techniques are in play and it will be interesting to see how this event is won under changing conditions over the course of 3 days.

Weather Cold And Rainy, Bite Hot For Lineberger; Few Others At Bassmaster Open On Douglas
7 pros busted the 20-pound mark on Douglas Lake today. 32 did not weigh a fish during day 1 of the Bassmaster Southern Open.
The lake has tons of healthy bass in it. THey can be easy to catch at times, according to local sticks. But recent frigid weather kept many from finding a productive pattern during practice. And it showed today.
Shane Lineberger of Lincolnton, NC leads with 24-6.
James Cross of nearby Knoxville proved big bass live in Douglas Lake. His 8-pounder was the lunker of the day.
David Gill leads all co-anglers with 15-11. That's a 3-fish limit in the co-angler division, so Gill found some nice fish, including the back deck big bass of the day at 6 pounds, 15 ounces.
Of 170 contestants, 89 co-anglers weighed a fish.
The beatings will continue tomorrow and, for a fortunate few, conclude on Saturday at the local Bass Pro Shops location.

Texas Team Trail Partners With Protect The Harvest
NORMAN, Okla. (April 4, 2013) — The Texas Team Trail presented by Cabela’s will partner with Protect the Harvest (protecttheharvest.com) to help reach American farmers, ranchers and outdoorsmen in 2013. Started by Lucas Oil founder Forrest Lucas, Protect the Harvest was organized to bring a collective voice to American farmers who have recently come under fire from radical animal rights organizations trying to interfere with their way of life.
“We feel honored to partner with Protect the Harvest and Forrest Lucas,” said Mike Hastings, tournament director. “We’re proud to help raise awareness of the issues and do what we can to preserve the way of life so many farmers, along with anglers and outdoorsmen, hold dear.”
Lucas, who drove trucks in the Midwest before co-founding Lucas Oil with his wife Charlotte, knows how vital agriculture and ranching are to the American economy. He was called to action when one group in particular, the Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS) came to Missouri, a state where Lucas raises cattle.
“The HSUS claims they are about animal welfare, but they are not,” Lucas said. “They don’t support animal shelters or any organizations like that. They tried to pass a puppy mill law that was worded so vaguely that these regulations would have effected more than illegal pet breeders, it would have also covered honest, hard-working people raising chickens, cattle and pigs.”
“Our focus is on educating America on what’s really happening out there and I’m happy to say that the word is spreading fast,” Lucas continued. “We will continue to safeguard American agriculture as long as the need is there.”
The Texas Team Trail, designed exclusively for team competition, recently kicked off the 2013 season on Sam Rayburn Lake. The schedule includes four qualifying events, plus a year-end championship, taking place on legendary Falcon Lake, October 12-13. Registration for the upcoming Ray Roberts event is already underway. Anglers can secure an opportunity to win a free Minn Kota Talon shallow water anchor by registering before midnight on Thursday, April 4.

Murphy Glad To Be Back Fishing In Southern Open On Douglas Lake
With his recovery from shoulder surgery on track, maybe even a little ahead of schedule, Michael Murphy is glad to be back on the water fishing and he is making the most of it.
Practicing on Douglas Lake for the Bassmaster Southern Open this week, the Lexington, S.C., angler said the fishing is tough but he is excited to be working into a competitive groove after missing so much time following surgery.
“I am getting back on track now. I quit fishing the tour, not out of choice, but of necessity. I had to have shoulder surgery and then I had a boating mishap and hurt my shoulder even more. The doctor said it would take about a year to a year and a half for recovery and it's been about a year now – and it's a lot better.”
While recovering from surgery, Murphy said he is getting back into fishing a lot more than in the past year or two.
“I fished around home last year, local tournaments and the BFLs and make the All-American, so I am looking forward to that. And I am fishing a lot better the healthier I get,” said Murphy, who with his partner, Kevin Sanders, just won the Carolina Anglers Team Challenge on Santee Cooper, weighing in more than 26 pounds and earning a check for $10,000 in a 159-boat field.
His professional life is also in a good groove. Murphy is a sales agent and is on the Pro Team for the Optimum Bait Company. He has a sponsor agreement with Denali Rods and he just signed a sponsor deal with Lew's for Lew's Reels.
Murphy comes to the second Southern Open of the year in 22nd place in the standings after weighing in 24 ponds, 2 ounces, and winning $3,300 in the first Open two months ago on Florida's Lake Tohopekaliga.
Coming to Douglas Lake is like going from one extreme to the other, however. While Central Florida was basking in an unusually warm winter – though a cold front did move through during the tournament to slow spawning activity – Douglas Lake has been cold, cold, cold for a while now. Anglers in the PAA tournament had snow in their boats one morning last week.
And, while the temperature is beginning to warm up slightly, the lake is rising quickly, which is impacting the normal routine of the fish, Murphy said.
“It's tough fishing The lake is fishing very small and the water is coming up. I was here for pre-practice before the PAA, which I did not fish, and the level has come up seven feet since then. I talked to a couple of guys who said it is rising 8 to 9 inches a day, so it will be up at least another foot by tournament time.”
Murphy said the water temperature is running 52 to 54 degrees and probably will not warm a lot more by Thursday when the tournament launches.
“The lake is getting a lot of fishing pressure with the PAA tournament here last week. They had a lot of bites on the Alabama Rig and I threw it a lot today. I caught a few on it, but it is definitely a grind. I also caught a few cranking”
In practice, Murphy said he will try to figure out where he can get enough bites for a limit, then see if he can find places to catch a bigger fish.
His tournament strategy, he said, will be to cover a lot of water and keep an open mind.
“I think the guy who does that probably will win the tournament. You might have two or three different things you want to throw and two or three difference patterns to run.”
Most of all, he said, he is just glad to be back in the game and fishing.

More Heavy Bags Predicted As Texas Team Trail Moves On To Lake Ray Roberts
The second season of the Texas Team Trail got off to a roaring start March 2 on lake Sam Rayburn with 225 boats entered and the winning team weighing in a limit at a whopping 29.99 pounds.
Grover Mansfield and Brandon Flowers won a Triton XS with a 150 Evinrude, plus $2010 in the Angles Advantage side pot and $1,125 for big bass to take home a total package worth $28,135. The top 14 teams weighed in more than 20 pounds.
“We are really excited,” said Mike Hastings, tournament director, who was preparing for the second event of the season this Saturday on Lake Ray Roberts. “What makes the Texas Team Trail so attractive is the low entry fee of $250 per team and a boat-motor-trailer package that is guaranteed for first place at every every, regardless of the number of entries.”
And there are multiple ways to win more money, Hastings said, including contingency awards for owners of 2009 and newer Ranger, Triton and Stratos boats and Evinrude Motors, plus contingencies from other sources such as the Cabelas Angler Cash Program, Power Pole and Ram Trucks.
“Another unique feature is the Angler Advantage, an optional $100 side pot with a 100 percent payback,” he said.“In addition, every event is nationally televised on NBC Sports and it also runs on various local networks.”
Hastings said the trail consists of four one-day qualifying tournaments and a two-day championship. Teams fish all four qualifiers to make it to the championship. After Sam Rayburn in early March and Ray Roberts this weekend the trail moves on to Belton Lake at Belton, Texas, May 4 and Cedar Creek lake at Log Cabin, Texas, June 1, with the championship scheduled at Falcon Lake Oct. 12-13.
“Two boat-motor-trailer packages a guaranteed for first and second place at the championship,” Hastings said.
Fishing at Lake Ray Roberts Saturday could be just as good as it was on Sam Rayburn, if not even better, Hastings said.
“It looks like we are going to hit it just right. There are a lot of fish shallow in various stages of the spawn, so there should be a really strong shallow bite,” he said. “And, I am sure some of the guys will find productive offshore patterns. The lake has a lot of really good offshore structure spots and it a lot of aquatic vegetation and standing timber.”
Last year the big bass winner at Lake Ray Roberts was well over 11 pounds, said Hastings who added he expects to see some really heavy bags and some really big bass weighed in Saturday.
“I'd be shocked if it does not take 10 pounds or better to win big bass and I also think it will take at least 25 pounds to be in contention for the overall weight,” he said.

Latimer Will Be Multi-Tasking In The Everstart Southeast Division Tournament On Lake Seminole

Brian Latimer will be practice fishing the first half of this week for the EverStart Southeast Division tournament Thursday-Saturday on Lake Seminole with one had holding a casting rod and the other his cell phone.
The 30-year-old angler has a landscaping business back in Belton, S.C., and this is springtime. Grass is growing, plants need tending, and somebody has to stay on top of it.
“I really need to be home working right now, but I am going to try to make it work this week. I've got my cell phone and my wife is here and she will help me with emails and other things,” he said.
Right now, however, Latimer is concentrating on finding out what the bass in Seminole are up to. In hopes of holding up his 13th rank in EverStart Southeast Division points and improving overall from last year's 36th place finish in the standings.
After checking out the lake Sunday, Latimer said he had seen quite a few fish cruising the shallows, “but it seems like they don't want to bite very well. It was really cold here last week and it seems like they just pulled up,” he said.
“There are some reports of fish being on the beds a month ago and even two months ago, but I don't think the big wave has happened yet. I know some have already spawned, but I don't think the bulk of the fish has yet.”
Latimer said he is first going to concentrate on deeper spots out from where the fish have pulled up shallow.
“I am going to keep trying to find some fish on secondary places right outside the spawning areas, out on the ledges,” he said. “Later in the week I will start looking for some spawning fish, but it's to early to worry about that right now.”
The main problem with fish a tournament on Lake Seminole, said Latimer who has fished nearly half a dozen tournaments on the lake, is that the majority of the bass appear to be concentrated in three or four key areas.
“This lake is not a place that is good from one end to the other. It seems like all the fish are grouped on a few areas, like the Spring Creek area, a little bite up the Chattahoochee River and a little bit in the Flint River. It seems like the rest of the lake is just not that productive, and is not just my opinion. If you look at tournament results you will see that the tournaments here are won in basically the same areas every year.”
Latimer said he managed to fish all EverStart Southeast Division schedule tournaments last year and plans to fish the full schedule this year.
“I really wanted to fish the BFL Savannah River Division, but could not quite find the time because of traveling with EverStart, but I will fish the BFL Super Tournament in the Fall. And that's probably it. Four tournaments (with EverStart) does not seem like a full schedule, but running a business is a hand full. Hopefully, I will earn enough money to do it again next year.”

Previously we required teams to fish 26 events. We made this change to allow more teams the opportunity to compete in the final Fish Off Championship event.

Collins Bass For Cash Series Event #2 – First Flight Starting Order
The random drawing for the first flight of the 4/6/13 Kerr Lake event has been conducted and the starting positions are listed below. Note that boat numbers 1 through 200 are reserved for Open Division entries, while boat numbers 201 and up are reserved for 115 HP Division entries. This numbering system is needed to keep the scoring separate for each division.
We will continue receiving entries this week leading up to the event and will also accept entries the morning of the event.
- On-Site Registration Begins At 5:30 AM.
- First Flight Blast Off At Safe Light – Approximately 7:00 AM.
- Second Flight Blast Off 15 Minutes Later – Approximately 7:15 AM.
- Please be checked in, have your livewells checked, and your boat in the water well in advance of the start of the event.
- First Flight Return / Weigh-In – 3:00 PM (Check In With Tournament Official)
- Second Flight Return / Weigh-In – 3:15 PM (Check In With Tournament Official)
- Food items and door prizes available during afternoon weigh-in, so stick around if you can.

We grab CBC Santee Champs Michael Murphy and Kevin Sanders after their 26+ LB haul and $10,000 first place prize! They talk about the key to their win and fighting thru a big lull in the middle of the day to hang on and beat 169 other great teams that turned out to compete-

Although the weights were strong, they were not crazy like some afternoons we've seen at Santee when you have 169 teams. But one thing was a little crazy--two teams went home with $10,000 each and folks, that just doesn't happen in many team trails around the country today. Michael Murphy and Kevin Sanders won the $10,000 1st place prize with 5 fish for 26.040 while 2nd was just slightly behind with Kenny Brice and Kenny Fenters with 25.68. Brice and Fenters took home $5000 for 2nd, but as the highest finishing Skeeter/Yamaha team they earned an additional $5000 to bring their eye-popping total to $10,000 as well. Miracle and Wolfenbarger Win Shootout!
The second Tomas Marine Team Trail event of 2013 turned into a shootout at the top. While nearly a third of the 121 boat field failed to weigh a single fish the top 21 all had in excess of 16-pounds. The team of Steve Miracle and Mike Wolfenbarger came out on top of the pack with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 19.98-pounds and win the $2,500 first place prize. Second place went to the team of Steve and Benny Neal with another nice limit weighing in at 19.32-pounds. They earned $1,500. Allen Smith and Josh Roark were a very close third with 19.22-pounds winning them $900. Fourth place and $700 went to Steve Givson and Tim Smiley with 18.81-pounds.Rounding out the top 5 was the team of Rick Patterson and Andy Ramsey with an 18.8-pound limit earning them $520.
