TEXAS TEAM TRAIL PRESENTED BY CABELA’S WRAPS UP THIRD EVENT OF 2013 AT BELTON LAKE
Winning team takes home over $35,000 in cash and prizes
NORMAN, Okla. (May 6, 2013) – Mark Mueck, of Livingston, Texas, and David Curtis, of Trinity, Texas, brought 17.12 pounds of bass to the scales to win the third event of the 2013 season of the Texas Team Trail presented by Cabela’s on May 4 at Belton Lake. The winning anglers took home a new fully-rigged Ranger Z119 boat with a motor and trailer package, valued at $35,000.
Unfamiliar with Belton Lake, the team fished the lake before the cut-off date. This experience was crucial to the team’s success.
“During practice the fish were really biting,” said Mueck. “We probably caught 40 to 50 fish a day before cut-off. That helped us a lot, considering neither one of us had been there before.”
Starting at the south end of the lake in clear water, the team caught three keepers on points with crankbaits and umbrella rigs. Working their way to the north end of the lake, the anglers had their limit by 8 a.m. and culled 10 bass throughout the day.
“It takes the pressure off of you knowing you already have your limit,” said Mueck. “We had a five-pound largemouth but it’s incredible how many smallmouth are in that lake. We probably caught 10 smallmouth during the day and weighed two in our bag.”
Taking part of the Ranger Cup program, the anglers upgraded from the original first-place prize, a Triton 18XS, to a Ranger Z119. The team also won an additional $1,470 in Angler’s Advantage cash and the $500 Cabela’s Angler Cash gift card.
Second-place finishers Randy Grounds, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, and Allen Gass, of Llano, Texas, weighed 15.09 pounds to win $4,050, plus and additional $1,078 in Angler’s Advantage cash. The team brought in the largest bass of the event (6.48 pounds), earning $810 for the Big Bass Award.
Russell Cecil, of Willis, Texas, and Todd Castledine, of Nacogdoches, Texas, took the $2,430 third-place prize for their 14.73 pounds of bass. The duo added $1,480 in contingency prize winnings.
This win catapulted Mueck and Curtis to the top spot in the TXTT Team of the Year standings with 554 points. Russell Lee and Landan Ware are a close second at 533 points with Stephen Johnston and Dick Newberry right on their heels at 529 points.
The Belton Lake event was the third of four 2013 qualifying events that guarantee a fully-rigged, 18-foot tournament-equipped bass boat package as first place prize – in this case a Triton 18XS with an Evinrude 150 HO package, valued at $30,000.
The next stop for the Texas Team Trail is Cedar Creek Lake on June 1. Competitors who register for the Cedar Creek Lake event by midnight of Thursday, May 30, will be allowed to pre-fish on Friday, May 31, and entered into a drawing for a Minn Kota Talon shallow water anchor.

Cbs Quality Cars Nc Triangle Area Spring Mini Trail Results - Falls Lake - May 4, 2013
40 teams showed up for the 4th qualifying tournament of the 2013 CBS Quality Cars NC Triangle Area Team Bass Spring Mini Trail.
It was a cool morning at blastoff with temps of 46 and wind at 10. It almost felt like it was a cold January day!! The wind kept blowing all day and gusting up to 20 at times! Highs for the day were in the mid 60's.
Jesse Wise & Terry Hobbs took 1st place honors with 5 bass weighing a whopping 27.39 lbs. They won 1st place money of $975 and $385 for 1st place TWT for a grand total of $1,360. Jerry Woodard & Tommy Dailey (21.61 lbs.) won 2nd place, 2nd place TWT & 1st place big fish for a total of $975. Their big fish weighed in at 7.18 lbs. and the team of Aaron Rockwell & Josh Allen took 2nd place big fish with a nice 7.05 lb. hawg.
153 fish were weighed in for a total weight of 460 pounds. Most fish were caught in shallow water (2-10') mainly flipping plastics & jigs and some were caught on spinnerbaits. Water temps ranged from 63 to 68 degrees. The bass that were weighed in looked healthy! All the females looked to be in the post spawn period with worn tails and some sore spots. The bass at Falls are hungry now that the spawn is ending, so the fishing should be great for a while! I want to thank all the anglers that participated and that support this trail.
Our next trail tournament will be the Boats Unlimited NC Team Tournament Bass Trail Qualifier #6 at Jordan Lake, Saturday May 11th, out of Farrington Point Wildlife Ramp. This is also an Open tournament for those that just want to fish.We only have 2 qualifiers left, so teams that have fished only 2 qualifiers need to fish these last 2 to be eligible to fish the Championship at Falls Lake, June 22nd..

Dale Gibbs And Thomas Thomas Win The Cbc On Clarks Hill With 20.01 And Take Home $8300-Full Results Here!
Another tremendous weekend for the CBC South Carolina Division on Clarks Hill lake............111 teams turned out for what has been an outstanding year for all involved in the CBC. The one aspect of this tournament trail has been the unbelievably bad wx that seems to follow them everywhere and Saturday was no exception with downpouring rain all afternoon. Champions Thomas Thomas and Dale Gibbs held on for a very tight win over the 2nd place team of Toby Kiesler and Joel Watts who came in at 19.88 Lbs. Clarks Hill continues to show steady improvement over the past few years with much better weights and limits than we've seen in a long time. Martens Takes Over Lead At Bassmaster Elite Series On West Point Lake
Day 1 leader Keith Combs dropped to 4th place today when he brought 7 pounds, 4 ounces to the weigh in.
He will try to take the lead back tomorrow but, as was the case last month on Falcon Lake, Rick Clunn is close behind.
Clunn’s 2nd day heroics are 20 pounds lighter on West Point than they were on Falcon. Still, his14 pound sack is nearly double what he had yesterday and the 8 anglers ahead of him are liable to get caught by the 67-year-old bass fishing icon.
With 21-11, Clunn is 3 pounds, 3 ounces off the lead. It may take 2 days to catch up to that deficit on West Point Lake this week. It’s not that there are no big fish in the lake. The guys have seen plenty of them. But after practice ended the waters rose and fish are hard to find.
Aaron Martens took the top spot for today. With a limit that weighed 11-9 he has a 2-day total of 24-14. Martens said he caught two bedding bass today.
And Martens is about to give the shirt off his back for charity. The Georgia Bulldog-colored jersey (the tourney is in Georgia, after all) goes up for auction on eBay once this tournament concludes. Martens will need it for at least one more day. Randy Howell is doing the same thing with his jersey on eBay and noted that his is colored in a Georgia Tech scheme.
Greg Vinson, one ounce behind Martens, is 2nd for the 2nd day in a row. He has cut his deficit from 4 ounces to 1. That’s a positive trend.
Tommy Biffle climbed a couple of notches to 3rd with only 4 fish today. He only had 4 yesterday. With a total weight of 23-3 for 8 fish, Biffle is on the right size bass. Now if he can bag 5 tomorrow and the next day . . .
Skeet Reese is having a good tourney. He rounds out the top 5 with 22-10.
Ed Evers rode the day’s biggest bag (14-6) to the #7 spot.
Casey Ashley had the 3rd-heaviest weight today with 13-8. That moved him to 6th.
A single big fish counts for a lot this week.
Hank Cherry professed his love of jerkbaits on stage, admitting that they are his primary weapon this week and noting that an influx of dirty water has made them less effective as the tourney has continued. His weight was down three-and-a-half pounds from yesterday, at 8-12, but with a total of 21-even, his is 15th, safely inside the 50 cut and will, therefore, fish tomorrow.
Andy Montgomery got 5 bites today and turned them into his 2nd straight 10-pound effort. With 20-9 he is in 17th and will fish tomorrow.
Bass are shallow. Ish Monroe confirmed there is a frog bite going on. He plans to gain ground in the Angler of the Year race with his Snag Proof Ish’s Phat Frog on Saturday. “It got a little slow today. Tomorrow I’m going to chuck the heck out of it.” He needs a big to keep the pressure on the frontrunners.

Elite Series Update: Combs Speaks About Day 1 "luck" On West Point Lake
During a phone conversation with Keith Combs just now, he said he feels "very fortunate" to be leading the Bassmaster Elite Series event on Georgia's West Point Lake.
"I'm chalking most of my bites up to luck, but hopefully I found a little something and I can do it again," said Combs, who already owns an Elite Series trophy this season, earned on Lake Amistad, and a berth into the 2014 Bassmaster Classic.
Of his excellent day, Combs shared that he is "pretty stoked about it" but noted that his bites were "very random".
"I don't know what changed. The weather didn't warm up. I didn't change. But I couldn't get it going this morning then I got 8 bites after 1:30. I saw some very big cruising fish in practice so I know I'm around them. I'm just going to try and keep a bait in areas where I know there are big fish."
As for tomorrow: "I'm going to try something different in the morning. I need to get an early bite going. I have no idea where I'm going to start."
Although a lot of competitors saw bedding bass in practice, Combs said sight fishing was made tough by current conditions. "The rising water has dingied-up the areas where you need to look. and this isn't the first wave of spawning fish, so they are already pretty smart. With this many targets in the water they can be anywhere and if you don't see them in time to sneak up on them, you scare them pretty easily when you get right up on them. We had really dark skies today and that made it even tougher to see."
Combs Sacks Nearly 16 Pounds On West Point Lake For Day 1 Bassmaster Elite Series Lead
I was watching the weigh in, wondering how 5-bass limits could weigh so little as some of them did today. Then Dave Mercer singled-out Alton Jones’ smallest fish out of curiosity. It weighed 10 ounces.
Bassmaster Elite Series anglers didn’t expect West Point Lake would produce a bunch of big bass this week, but some did see lots of decent fish on beds during practice. Then the waters rose. And the sight bite suffered. Apparently, lots of bass are leaving beds too. Cloud cover today did not help the bed-fishers either. And the forecast calls for dim skies again tomorrow.
Keith Combs staked a claim to the lead today with a sack that weighed 15 pounds, 14 ounces. No word on whether he was looking at fish or casting blind. “If I told you how I caught them you wouldn’t believe me,” said the Strike King pro-staffer. “I had the craziest day.” Combs added that he had not gotten a single bite before 1:30.
Tommy Biffle did get a couple of bites early in the day. They turned out to be his 2 biggest fish, including a 6-12 that took top honors as big bass of the day. All Biffle would say about his pattern is that he “just went fishing”.
‘Just fishing’ seems to be the way to go on West Point Lake where junk fishermen tend to rule. And in such closely contested events, the pros are often as tight-lipped as the fish.
Behind Combs is a versatile field of talented pros, including Greg Vinson (15 pounds, 10 ounces today), Reigning Bassmaster Classic Champ Cliff Pace (14-2) Aaron Martens (13-5) and former Angler of the Year Skeet Reese (13-even).

Williamson Hoping West Point Not Too Big A Challenge In Quest For Bassmaster Classic Slot
Before the 2013 Bassmaster season started Jason Williamson set several goals – win a tournament (or two), make a run at the Bassmaster Angler of the Year title, and qualify for the 2014 Bassmaster Classic.
So far, so good.
He has not won a tournament yet, but he is in strong contention for the Elite AOY title, sitting in 6th place, and, at almost the mid-point of the season he has a real shot at making his second Classic if he can stay in the top 28 to qualify.
“I definitely want to be a part of the Classic again. That is what every angler is hoping going into the season.”
And making the 2014 Classic would be especially sweet, said Williamson whose previous Classic appearance was in 2011 on the Louisiana Delta.
“It's going to be on Lake Guntersville. It could be a cold Classic, but it also could be a record-breaking Classic weight-wise. I think the fishing will be absolutely phenomenal on Guntersville and it's nice that it is not so far from home, only five or six hours.”
The only potential snag in his plans for making the Classic is the challenge presented by West Point Lake, site of the fourth Elite Tournament of 2013, this weekend.
“This place has always been a grind for me,” said Williamson during practice this week. “I have never really figured it out.”
His lack of love for West Point is reflected in the outcomes of at least two major tournaments he has fished on the lake – he finished 73rd in the last Elite tournament held there in May 2011 and he finished 55th in a Southeastern Division EverStart tournament there in 2006.
Williamson really likes to throw a jig, whether it's fishing it out deep over structure, fishing up shallow or casting on points.
“That's the way I like to catch them, especially this time of year, but this is one of those deals where it's just not set up for that kind of fishing. You are going to have to run a bunch of different stuff here. It's a junk fisherman's paradise.”
That means, Williamson said, that instead of chunking that jig and doing what he is really comfortable with, to be successful an angler is probably going to have to catch a fish on one bait and if he throws it another 30 minutes without another bite he will have to change baits.
“I've come over here probably a dozen times in my career and it's just one of those lakes where you pretty much have to junk fish. You can catch a few on the shad spawn early, maybe a few back in the pockets and then a few out on the points.”
He said the bass are in transition on West Point this week, with a few spawning, a few that have not spawned yet and a good many that have finished spawning.
“You might catch one or two off a boat dock, one or two in the pockets. There's just a lot of different things going on,” he said.
“There used to be a ton of big fish in this lake and there are still a few big fish left, enough for some of the guys to catch a 7- or 8-pounder. And that's gong to be the real key, catching one of the big ones each day to put you up where you need to be and separate you from the guys who have 8 to 10 pounds.”
Adding to the situation is the fact that with all the recent rains the lake has come up about three feet in the last week and put a lot of color in the water, he said.
“Now the fish are up shallow, but they are more scattered out. You will probably see a few big fish caught, but a lot of guys will struggle to get 9 or 10 pounds.”
The challenge of West Point notwithstanding, Williamson is very happy with his year so far and he feels his goals are well within reach.
“I've been blessed. I've made some really good decisions in the last couple of tournaments to put me in contention for Angler of the year and to make the Classic. That's why is is even more important for me to catch them here. I can't let up. If I want to continue pursuing Angler of the Year I've got to figure them out.”

Kyle Page Tournament Up And Running, And Ready To Assist Needy Families
After coming close to falling by the wayside a year ago, the Kyle Page Tournament on Lake Murray, which has provided financial assistance to more than 80 families with children that have severe medical needs, has been revitalized and organizers are hoping to carry on its good works well into the future.
“We are hoping for 100 or more boats in the 17th annual Kyle Page Tournament Sunday,” said Beth Frick, who is working with Shelly Page, Kyle's mother, on the fund-raising bass tournament that has become a fixture on the lake's annual tournament calendar.
Frick said first prize in the tournament will be $5,000 guaranteed and the big fish prize will be $500 guaranteed. Both prizes were provided by donors who wish to remain anonymous. Places could be paid down through 25th place, if as many as 200 boats sign up, she said.
The first “Kyle Page Open Team Bass Tournament” was held in 1997 to benefit the Page family. The tournament was a huge success raising over $10,000 for Kyle's family after he was born with spina bifida, a birth defect of the spine.
After seeing the success of the tournament and the outpouring of the community, Kyle's dad, the late Joel Page, a local bass tournament fisherman, asked to continue the tournament to raise money for other families in need of assistance.
Over the years, organizers say more than $1 million has been raised to help local families who have children with severe medical needs.
“Shelly and I are trying to put it back together,” said Ms. Frick, who added that plans are to provide monetary assistance this year to two local families. “The guys who fish the tournament are very important because that is where the money comes from for the children.”
Kyle Page, now a sophomore in high school, has blossomed through he will never be able to walk due to his medical condition. That, however, has not slowed him down, Ms. Frick said.
“He is very, very strong-willed and has a smile on his face all the time. He is going to have more surgery this December to straighten his back but in October he is going on a dream hunt for elk in Wyoming.”
While the anglers are the primary source of money for the Kyle Page Foundation, other supporters, fishing fans and participants are also needed, she said, noting that there will be a lot going on for the entire family at the weigh-in site at Dreher Island State Park Sunday.
“We will start about 11 o'clock Sunday morning with a local band and there will be activities for kids all day. Two bands will play, The Part Timers and Dixieland Crossroads, basically country and light rock music.”
She said the Department of Natural Resources water tank will be set up for little children to fish in. Plans also include a small choo choo train and a “Fishing Hole,” where kids can fish with a cane pole for prizes.
“We are going to have food and we will give away door prizes after the tournament awards. The Mid Carolina Branch of the Quality Deer Management Association will be cooking hot dogs and hamburgers and there will also be brownies and chips available,” she said. “We need all the public support and participation we can get to make it a success.”

Tharp Crossing Over To Everstart Central For One Tournament Because Pickwick Is A Tennessee River Lake
Randall Tharp usually fishes the EverStart Southeast Division schedule in addition to the FLW Tour, but he is fishing the EverStart Central Division tournament on Pickwick Lake this week simply because it is a Tennessee River lake.
“Pickwick is in Alabama and the fishing on the Tennessee River is probably the best fishing in the country right now,” said the bass pro from Gardendale, Ala. “Fishing has really been strong on the whole Tennessee River in general the last couple of years and I won't bypass a chance to fish a tournament there in the spring.”
In Tharp's last FLW Outdoors tournament on Pickwick, the FLW Major in 2011, he finished 6th, but, he noted, “that was a lot different fishing that what we are going to experience this week.”
This week, he said, anglers are going to have to contend with extreme flood conditions on the lake because of all the recent rains.
“We had a cold winter so I think the bass are having a late spawn. A lot of fish have that on their minds, but we are dealing with flooding on Pickwick,” said Tharp who is currently ranked 25 in the FLW Tour Majors Division at the halfway point of the 2012 Tour season. “There are 20-plus gates open on Wilson Dam right now. I went up and took a picture of it this morning and it was a sight to behold with that many flood gates open on a river this size.”
Tharp said the lake is expected to rise another foot, maybe two feet, by the EverStart tournament, “and it's already out of the banks.”
And, he added, as incredible as it sounds, the flood waters are almost crystal clear.
“I can see the bottom in 5 to 6 feet of water and that is pretty much over the entire lake. I rode over the lake yesterday and it is clear everywhere. That is amazing considering how much water is flooding into the lake,” he said.
“I've never seen the Tennessee river this clear this time of year. In the summer it is usually kind of clear, but not this early in the spring. It almost requires a finesse style presentation I am sure it's going to lend itself to some sight fishing, too.”
Tharp said he has yet to figure out how to fish during the tournament, but he probably will stick with his strength, shallow power fishing.
“I will have plenty of targets to fish, even if they are in somebody’s back yard.”

According to Wade Middleton, President of CarecoTV and Co-founder of the ACA, "Our anglers are the perfect fit for the new lure technologies offered by Livingston. College anglers are tech-savvy and always interested in innovative products like the
Livingston line of lures. I look for the collegiate anglers to really embrace the concept and offerings of our newest partner."
Livingston Lures produces innovative, technologically advanced lures for freshwater and saltwater fish. Featuring unique sound and vibration technologies, Livingston Lures produces a wide variety of hardbaits including crankbaits, top-water baits, wakebaits, lipless crankbaits and jerkbaits.
"Livingston Lures is proud to be part of the Association of Collegiate Anglers and the Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series," said CEO Fred Battah of Livingston Lures. "Our lures are designed to look real and swim natural with precise action. The added technology includes an internal circuit board that emits the sound of an injured bait fish as well as an LED light to give collegiate anglers an added edge when on the water. We believe our cutting-edge lures and today's collegiate angler are a great fit for both sides."
The Livingston lineup for 2013 includes the Dive Master series of crankbaits in three depth ranges; a lipless crankbait series, the Pro Ripper; a walk-the-dog topwater series, the Pro Sizzle; an ultra-shallow wake bait, the Pro Wake; and a jerkbait, the Stick Master. All have the sound and rattle chamber exclusive to Livingston, while some of the larger baits also include the feature of strike-triggering visual technology that when activated by water, the flash softly and naturally fades in and out and cycle repeatedly with the electronic baitfish "shad" noise. Collectively, these features make Livingston a true pioneer in fishing lure technology, which collegiate anglers will appreciate.
The Association of Collegiate Anglers, a division of Careco TV and The Bass Federation, is a sanctioning body developed to facilitate growth, development, and structure within competitive collegiate bass fishing. The ACA provides support to dozens of regional events nationwide and owns the Cabela's Collegiate Bass Fishing Series, the largest participatory collegiate tournament circuit in the country.
Jason Christie Rides His Ranger Boat Into The Record Books With Back-To-Back Tour-Level Tournament Wins
Christie’s FLW Tour win on Beaver Lake and his B.A.S.S. Elite Series victory on Bull Shoals also vaulted him to No. 1 in the BassFan World Rankings and gave him a commanding lead in the Bassmaster Rookie of the Year standings, though the 39-year-old Park Hill, Okla., resident is hardly a rookie. Before he became the biggest story in professional fishing this spring, Christie had four Forrest Wood Cup berths in five FLW Tour seasons and was a force to be reckoned with on the regional tournament trails where he logged six BFL wins and 23 Top-10 finishes – all accomplished from a Ranger boat.
“I’ve always run a Ranger and I really can’t imagine running anything else,” Christie said. “I’m on my fourteenth Ranger and I have loved every one of them. They’re the ultimate fishing machines.”
Familiarity with the waters of Beaver Lake and Bull Shoals – “It can fish a lot like my home lake, Lake Tenkiller, with its clear, deep water,” Christie said of the latter – helped him overcome bad practice periods and make the biggest comeback in Elite Series history (no angler had ever jumped from 11th place to 1st on the last day), giving him two tournament wins in as many weeks. But familiarity with Ranger quality and reliability is what allows Christie to focus solely on fishing during competition days.
“It’s a big boat but it floats really shallow and allows me to get into really skinny water and then a week later I can be somewhere like the Detroit River where the waves are five or six feet tall,” said Christie, who entered the history books this season aboard a 2013 Ranger Z520C. “You don’t have to worry about these boats – that’s the thing.”
Another Forrest Wood Cup berth, two different Angler of the Year titles and other goals still remain for Christie in 2013. And while the significance of what he accomplished in April hasn’t entirely set in for the former junior high basketball coach, his long career as an ambassador for the Ranger brand and continued on-the-water success reinforce the legacy of Ranger’s prestigious Pro Staff.
“Jason has been a part of the Ranger Family going back to his days in the Central Pro-Am tournaments,” said Ranger Boats President Randy Hopper. “He’s an accomplished angler who has achieved something truly remarkable this season in addition to his already-successful professional career. We congratulate him on his success and know we’ll be seeing more performances like this from him in the future.”

Blackburn And Gentry Win The 2013 Kicks 99 Hooked On Country Bass Tournament On Clarks Hill-Full Results Here!
On an overcast day at Clarks Hill Lake, the 2nd Annual Kicks 99 Hooked on Country Bass Tournament, presented by Columbia County and Wildwood Park, blasted off 256 boaters all in hopes of driving home with the Guaranteed $15,000 1st place prize. After the final call at Weigh-in, Bart Blackburn and Glenn Gentry weighed in 24.76 Lbs and took home the $15,000 1st place prize. Their weight was impressive, especially on this Lake where the past 3-4 years leading into this spring, had been very, very un Clarks Hill like. 12-15lbs was winning many tournaments during that time span, so to see the multiple limits and solid stringers brought to the scales was more than encouraging. 27 bags were better than 14 Lbs, with 14 bags over 16! Go ahead and mark this one down for 2014, as there aren't many tournaments anywhere in the country with this type of payback on such a low entry fee. Full results and BF sheets are attached................congrats to the Champions as well as Kicks 99, Columbia County, The Clarks Hill Committee, and Wildwood Park on pulling off one of the smoothest and largest events of this 2013 season! Here are some great pics below:
Wild Bassin In The Glades!
“I caught the largest thing I have ever caught today. A 16+ foot long Python in the Everglades. I couldn't believe how strong and heavy it was. Lucky it straightened the hook when it got to the bank and stuck around for a picture or two. Brett caught a fish shortly after and was reeling down and set on it and it turned into a gator. Quite a fight and a wild day in the Glades!!!”
Gators may be common these days, having made a big comeback from their ‘endangered’ status a couple decades ago, but invasive, exotic pythons need to become endangered in South Florida where they are decimating populations of rabbits, deer, anything they can catch.
But still, this one made for a grand adventure for Joe and his partner, Brett.
Bart Blackburn And Glenn Gentry Win The 2013 Kicks 99 Hooked On Country Bass Tournament On Clarks Hill And Take Home $15,000!
Columbia County, Wildwood Park, and Clarks Hill Lake are BACK in a big way! The winning 24+ LB bag caught by Champions Bart Blackburn and Glenn Gentry was one of the best we've seen on this lake in years! They talk about their big day, beating out 256 other teams, multiple solid stringers, and some great insight as to why Clarks Hill has made a great comeback this year-

Mark Hutson/greg Elsey Win Santee Open
With the largemouth bass bite on fire lately, and 91 teams fishing the Santee Open Team Tournament, director Nelson Walker predicted it would take at least 30 pounds to win the $5000 top prize for the biggest bag of 5 fish. Mark Hutson and Greg Elsey came to the scales early during the weigh-in, and put a total weight of 34.8 lbs on the leaderboard, proving Walker right. Hutson and Elsey were never seriously challenged by any of the remaining teams, and won by almost 8 pounds.
Hutson, who caught a 10.5 lb largemouth on his way to 1st place in the BFL from this same landing two weeks earlier, said he and Elsey fished both the upper and lower lakes, and caught their biggest fish on the bed early in the day. The rest of their fish came on brush piles and around cypress trees. Soft plastic crawdads and Senkos served as their main lure choices. Their biggest fish weighed 8.73 and was good for 2nd place big fish, putting $260 in bonus money in their pocketes, and was just one of two 8+ pounders they brought to the scales.
Marc Deschenes and Ray Walsh took second place with 26.87 lbs, pocketing $2500. Deschenes, who said he grew up fishing the lower lake, said they spent most of the tournament fishing the shallows and cypress trees of the upper lake.
Ronnie McCoy and Kevin Bazen finished third with 26.44 lbs, winning $2000, followed by the 4th place team of Todd Smith and Cid Fowler, who caught 24.77 and won $1500. Kent Ware and Greg Boone won $1000 for their fifth-place catch of 24.39.
Lonnie Marchant and Jeff Hutto won $600 for bringing in the big fish, an 8.99 pounder.
The tournament paid through 20 places, and no team in the top 20 caught less than 20 pounds.

They took the first-place prize of $5000, and added $260 in bonus money for taking the 2nd Big Fish award with an 8.73 lb largemouth.Marc Deschenes and Ray Walsh brought what would normally be an impressive bag of 5 fish weighing 26.87 for second place and $2500. Anglers Choice Trail Growing Stronger Despite Split Divisions This Year
Chris Lucas, tournament director for the Anglers Choice Marine Team Trail, through that by splitting the trail into two divisions this year it would relieve some of the pressure on the Virginia Division and perhaps spread out the competition a little.
Well, it did spread out the competition, but as far as relieving pressure on the Virginia Division, that did not happen. It is as strong as it ever was. And the new Carolina Division is growing stronger with every tournament, so all the split did was make one strong trail with major entries into two strong trails with major entries.
“The split has really been working good,”Lucas said. “We were hoping it would take some of the pressure off the Virginia side, but we started out with 200 boats. And the Carolina division keeps getting bigger and bigger.. I don't know if the split alleviated any pressure – both sides are large and going good so far.”
Both divisions are headed to Kerr Reservoir this weekend for the first time this year, with the Virginia Division fishing on Saturday and the Carolina Division on Sunday. Both will be out of Occoneechee State Park Ramp #1.
“Everybody is excited about getting to Kerr this year,” said Lucas. “The season has been going good, we’ve had good participation and the fishing has been good. The guys have been catching some nice bags of fish.”
Lucas admitted he does not know what Kerr has in store for the anglers this weekend.
“I've not heard how the fishing is going down there. I'd like to think there will be some spawning fish. I'd say this time of year you could catch them on pretty much anything you wanted to catch them on,” he said. “I don't think we will see any huge bags, but 17 or 18 pounds will probably give you a chance.”
With four tournaments in the bag so far on both sides and only two tournaments left for each side, Kerr could also be the deciding point in the points race, which has begun to tighten up, Lucas said.
“It looks like it's going to be just like it was last year. We had a tie for the points last year and had to determine the winner at the classic,” he said. “One of the things we have done this year is provide the top five teams a free entry into the classic and there is a $1,250 bonus if they win it, so the guys are going after that, too.”
After Saturday, the Virginia Division goes to Smith Mountain Lake, May 25, out of Parkway Marina, and then wraps up the regular season back at Kerr Lake June 29, out of Occoneechee State Park. After Sunday the North Carolina Division goes to High Rock Lake June 22, out of Tamarac Marina, and then finishes the regular season June 30 at Kerr Lake out of Occoneechee State Park.

Bass Moving Up Just In Time For Santee Cooper Open Bass Tournament Saturday
The fish are biting like crazy and there really isn't much else going on around the Santee Cooper Lakes this weekend so Nelson Walker is hoping bass fishermen will head on down to compete in the 2013 Santee Cooper Open Bass Tournament Saturday.
“We are hoping to have 100 to 125 boats Saturday,” said Walker, tournament director for the event, who noted that early entries are lagging a little. “I think everybody may be waiting to see what the weather is gong to be like. It's definitely been flip-flopping this year.”
But a little off-seasonal weather is not having any bad effect on the fish and should not deter anyone who wants to put a hefty limit of bass in the live well, he noted, because everything else is falling into place just in time for the tournament.
“We are looking for some really big weights Saturday,” Walker said. “There were a couple of small tournaments last weekend. It took 30 pounds to win one and 27 pounds to win the other one. I'm sure it will take at least 27-28 pounds to win Saturday, but if somebody catches a 10-pounder we might break that 30-pound mark.”
That could easily happen because of several factors, he noted.
“The fish are still moving up on Santee. It's kind of funny, in some of the other lakes around the fish are done spawning, but they are still coming up here. We had a cold front in March and our fish don't like cold water so they just never moved up,” he said. Although the water temperature has not been really warm during the day, it has not been cold at night, he noted, and now the water temperature is just about right.
“They've been lagging, but a big wave moved up in the lower lake last week. The lake is rising now, too. We had a little issue with the water falling when the fish started to move up, but now it is rising and they are moving up. We've also got a full moon coming up as well, so we think the fishing will be wide open this weekend,” he said.
“The rising water level is helping in a lot of places. I think by Saturday you can pick wherever you want to go and catch fish. It will be just a matter of what size they are.”
Entry fee for the tournament is $150, plus an optional $10 for big fish. Teams must be registered by Wednesday or face a late penalty of $25.
“We are trying to cut down on the crush the morning of the tournament, but there probably will be 40 or 50 boats show up and do it on the spot,” he said.
The tournament will pay back 100 percent of entry fees, with the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce guaranteeing $5,000 for first place. Walker said plans are to pay two big fish prizes, split 70-30 for big fish and second big fish.
“We will also pay a bonus to the top finishing youth team, which is anybody 16 or under fishing with an adult. I know several guys who are going to bring their sons to fish with them, so some of the conventional tournament teams will split up for this tournament,” he said.
“The Open Bass Tournament is being held in conjunction with the Clarendon County Striped Bass Festival so bring the family and come to downtown Manning to spend the day. There will be snacks and rides and the weigh-in will be held at 3 o'clock.”

Hooked On Country Tournament Expected To Be Largest Ever Held On Clarks Hill
The Clark Hill Committee is gearing up for the second annual Kicks 99 Hooked on Country Open Bass Tournament in anticipation that it will break the Clarks Hill Lake record for entries set last year.
“We had 278 boats last year which was the largest tournament ever held on Clarks Hill,” said Barry Frazier, a tournament director for the Clark Hill Committee. “We are hoping for over 300 boats this year. Our goal is to get 325 teams.”
The inaugural tournament in 2012 drew anglers from as far away as Tennessee, Virginia, even one boat from Ohio.
If they flow in as expected, anglers can expect to tap into some of the hottest fishing of the year, Frazier said.
“It is wide open right now,” he said. “It took 25 pounds to win a tournament on the lake last weekend.
Frazier said the fish are schooling on points and some fish are still bedding. Most are being caught on topwater baits and flukes, but some are catching fish on jigs and some are throwing Alabama Rigs, he said.
Entry fee for the tournament is $125 per team, which includes the big fish pot. The guaranteed first place prize is $15,000, with $2,000 paid for big fish and $1,000 for second big fish. Proceeds will be given to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Pre-registration and drawing for boat positions was being held Tuesday at North Augusta Customs in North Augusta, S.C. Late registration will be held at Wildwood Park from 5 to 6 a.m. with a $10 late fee applied.
The tournament is sponsored by Kicks99, Milton Ruben Toyota and The Clark Hill Committee which will provide tournament officials and conduct the tournament The tournament Saturday is one of six major events conducted on Clarks Hill Lake by the committee.
The 6th tournament is being added this year, the Potash Fishback Open Team Bass Tournament June 8-9, with a guaranteed first place purse of $12,000. Proceeds will benefit the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance and youth fishing teams.

Bethel University Closes Out With Big Win On Kentucky Lake For Aca Championship Series
Bethel University Closes out ACA Collegiate Bass Fishing Open with Wire-to-wire Victory
Paris, Tennessee (April 20, 2013) - The Bethel University team of Cody Ross, Dewey Swims, Zach Parker, and Matthew Roberts set the bar high on Day One of the ACA Collegiate Bass Fishing Open and never looked back. Anchored by Cody Ross' 10.44 pound brute on the first day of competition, the Bethel Wildcats proved they know a thing or two about Kentucky Lake. They backed up their day one catch with another six fish limit totaling 21.36 pounds on Saturday, giving them a total of 52.78 lbs. and more than enough for a victory.
Local knowledge and teamwork were the key to their win and their efforts resulted in over $2,000 in cash and prizes, including Cabela's gift cards, cash, and new Temple Fork Outfitters rods for all four winning teammates.
According to Dewey Swims, "We all fish here a lot and we know the lake well, but our communication was important in this event. We were staying in touch with each other sharing information and truly working as a team and that made the difference."
Teamwork was obvious, as fellow Wildcat teammates, Jacob Hardy, Jake Lawrence, Randall Morris, and Dalton Wilson came within a pound and a half of victory, with a two day total of 51.33 lbs. Their catch was good for approximately $1,300 in cash and prizes from ACA and their partners, including Cabela's and Temple Fork Outfitters.
All the Bethel anglers used a variety of tactics to stay with the fish throughout the event. They caught bass, including the Big Bass of the event, flipping shoreline cover on day one, but as that bite faded, they worked together and made the necessary adjustments to stay on the fish.
Jacob Hardy added, "We knew the falling water would pull our shallow fish back to staging areas, so we started keying in on areas next to spawning flats. Rattle traps around those flats with grass on them ended up being the key in finishing strong."
It is a good thing the Bethel Wildcats finished strong, because the other local team, the Murray State Racers, was working hard to take the title of Open Champs back to Murray, Kentucky.
Ultimately the Murray State team of Cody Santel, Justin Berger, Justin Graben, and Vincent Campisano fell just short, but finished in a respectable third place with a total of 46.24 lbs.
Teamwork is the whole concept behind the ACA Collegiate Bass Fishing Open, and like Bethel, it was a big part of the Racers' success.
Justin Graben of Murray State summed it up best, "The key to our success was collaboration. It took all four to figure out the pattern and once we did we all worked it together to catch these fish. It has been a great event for us."
The Racers also took home new Temple Fork Outfitters rods, along with $400 cash for their catch.
Fourth place, Tennessee Tech University, put together the best rally of the event, weighing the largest limit of the second day at 24.83 lbs. making for a total combined catch of 45.16 lbs. The team consisted of two boats and four anglers, Matt Townson, Will Stansell, Bryson Dalton, and Joe Ellis.
According to Joe, there were some missed opportunity that hurt the Golden Eagles, including some large fish that broke off during the tournament, but their second day rebound helped with the disappointment.
Matt Townson went on to add, "Our team keyed in on an Alabama Rig bite late on day one and we let our partners know about it. We started the second day on those fish and we camped on them together all day Saturday. It was exciting to be catching fish and doing it all in sight of each other, it kept both of our boats fired up all day and we had a blast."
The top five was rounded out by the two-time BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Champions, the North Carolina State Bass Pack. The Bass Pack saw their weights fall nearly 10 pounds between their day one catch of 27.46 lbs and their day two catch of 17.53 lbs., but collectively their 44.99 lbs was enough for a solid finish.
Despite not taking home another title the Bass Pack was thrilled with their time in Paris, Tennessee. According to President, Paul Owens, "This has been an unbelievable week on Kentucky Lake. We've never caught as many fish as we have since we arrived. This has to be the most awesome fishery we've been on since I've fished with NC State. I'll be back just to fish, that's for sure."

**Remember guys, to be eligible to enter the Old North Final a team of 2 (same partners) must fish 3 Old North Qualifiers!
**If you have entered 1 Old North Qualifier this year you have qualified for the 2013 CATT Classic on Kerr Lake May 18-19.
When checking out the cash these teams won keep in mind the entry fee is ONLY $80 plus an optional side pot of $40. You can see CATT pays back as much or more than a trail that charges a $100 or more entry fee. Remember CATT pays back 100% of your entry fee! The 1st Bass Team Trail in the Carolinas to do so. Other trails are now adopting the CATT format which is flattering and a good thing for bass fisherman as a whole. Just remember CATT is still the original 100% payback trail in the Carolinas!
How good can a CATT Trail pay back? With the participation we’ve had so far this year we think the Old North Trail can grow even larger. So let’s sweeten the pot a little…at the June 15th Lake Jordan Final how about we push the 1st Place guarantee from $3,000.00 up to $3,500.00? The guarantee doesn’t depend on how many teams show for the Final….1st will receive a minimum of $3,500.00 no matter the number of boats at the Old North Final!

Cherry Hoping For Cool Down And Wind For Bassmaster Elite On Bull Shoals Lake
While many anglers this time of year hope for a warming trend to bring the bass up shallow, Hank Cherry is hoping the weather front moving across Bull Shoals Lake cools things down, especially if it comes with a little wind.
After a few days of practice for the Bassmaster Elite Series Bull Shoals Quest which begins Thursday, the Maiden, N.C., pro characterized fishing on Bull Shoals to fishing “in a bathtub.”
“It is beyond clear. You can see down 25 feet,” he said.
Thunderstorms were expected to roll across the 45,000 acre lake on the White River in in the Ozark Mountains of northern Arkansas and southern Missouri Wednesday, bringing a drop in temperatures and the wind Cherry wants for his fishing strategy.
“I caught quite a few fish on the second day of practice and right now I think I can catch them if we get the kind of weather they are talking about. I'd like to see what the storms and colder weather do to get the water temperature back down,” said Cherry who is fishing Bull Shoals for the first time.
“On the main lake the water temperature has been 56-57 degrees and in the backs of the coves it's been up to 65 degrees,” he noted.
But the main factor, he said, will be the wind.
“I think I am fishing deeper than most of the guys. I'm fishing a lot of places like where a main channel bumps up on points and where little ditches come through, things like that,” he said.
“I've not seen a lot of guys in practice doing what I am doing. I'm pretty much making six or seven casts on a spot and then I'm gone.”
Cherry has been riding high since qualifying for his first Bassmaster Classic by winning the final 2012 Southern Open on Smith Lake at Jasper, Ala., by one ounce last October, after moving to B.A.S.S. following a successful career in FLW competition. He finished third in the Classic on Grand Lake of the Cherokees at Tulsa, Okla., in February.
The win also propelled him into the Bassmaster Elite Series this year where he is currently 5th in the Elite Rookie Standings. In the two elite tournaments he has fished so far this year he placed 40th in the series opener on the Sabine River March 14-17 and followed that with a 68th place finish on Falcon Lake March 21-15.
Hoping to climb in the rookie points, Cherry said he is anxious to get past Bull Shoals and on to the next Elite tournament.
“Once we get out of here, things will be pretty much normal for me,” he said, noting that future tournaments are on lakes more suited to his style of fishing.
“I am looking forward to West Point (May 2-5). I like that lake a lot. I've only fished one tournament there, but I have had some very good times there,” he said.

Kicks 99 Bass Tournament On Clarks Hill Getting Lots Of Attention For Laying Out 15K For 1St Place!
AC Pro Staffer Rob Digh joins us on a special preview of one of the biggest Bass Tournaments to ever come to this region........THE KICKS 99 HOOKED ON COUNTRY BASS TOURNAMENT takes to the waters of CLARKS HILL on 4/27 with 15k Guaranteed for 1st place--here are Rob's thoughts on how to fish this lake right now!
Kicks 99 Hooked On Country Bass Tourney Among The Nations Biggest For 2013!
"It's going to be one of the biggest tournaments in the Southeast," said Jeb Bell about the upcoming Kicks 99 Hooked on Country bass tournament to be held out of Wildwood Park on Clarks Hill Lake Saturday, April 27th.
The team tourney features a $15,000 top prize for an entry fee of $125 per boat.
That type of payout will certainly draw anglers from far and wide. "Last year we had some from North Carolina," said Bell. "We had 278 boats and it took about 18 or 19 pounds to win. This year it should take that much or a little more. I imagine the bass will be somewhere around the beds, maybe coming off, maybe still on them, but they'll be up there somewhere."
This year's event will certainly draw at least one fisherman from a distant state. How about . . . Alaska?
"We're going to have one, maybe two of the guys from the boat The Northwest off of The Deadliest Catch TV show here at the weigh in to meet and greet the people who come to watch it," said Bell.
More info can be found at the Kicks 99 web site and, of course the AnglersChannel.com Tournaments Page.
One Good Fish Will Win Oakley Blue Ridge Big Bass Classic On Smith Mountain Lake
All it takes is one good fish. Being a winner in an Oakley Big Bass Tournament depends solely on that one fish and whether it is the biggest weighed in at the hour it is brought to the scales.
No cumulative weight. No tour to fish. No pro competition to beat. Just catch the right fish and weigh it at the right time and you are a winner.
Your fish could be worth $150, $500, $1,000. It could even earn you a brand new bass boat if it's the biggest fish caught over the two-day weekend.
That is the reason the Oakley Big Bass Tour attracts such large fields to the tournaments it holds around the country, and the Oakley Blue Ridge Big Bass Classic on Smith Mountain Lake this weekend is no exception.
Last year the tournament drew more than 500 anglers.
“We've got the 4th Annual Blue Ridge Classic this weekend at Smith Mountain and the Tony Stewart Big Bass Classic on Lake Norman the next weekend,” said Oakley Big Bass Classic tournament director Mark Jones. “We had a record number of entries for both events last year and we are expecting a big field for both again this year.”
Entry fees for the tournaments are $100 for one day and $150 for both days. There are seven hourly payouts each day with five places paid per hour. Based on a minimum of 400 entries, the payouts are $1,000 for the biggest bass each hour, $500 for second place, $300 for third, $200 for fourth and $150 for fifth. The grand prize for the largest fish weighed over the weekend is a 2013 Nitro Z7 powered by Mercury 150, with Tandem Trailer and Dual Console Upgrades, all valued at $30,000.
Phillip Cox won the 2012 Blue Ridge Big Bass Classic on Smith Mountain Lake with a 7.18-pound big bass to claim the Nitro Z7 grand prize.
“Registration will be held at Bridgewater Plaza Marina from 12 to 7 p.m. Friday, with online registration taken until midnight Friday at oakleybigbass.com,” Jones said.
All is takes is one good fish.

Anglers Line Up To Be Boaters For Warriors On The Water On Jordan Lake
Nobody wins money in the annual WOW Tournament, but bass anglers will stay up all night long to make sure they get their entry in.
“We all tournament fish and we all want to win money, but this is not a money tournament and guys say they look forward to this tournament all year long,” said Hal Abshire, tournament director for WOW, which stands for Warriors on the Water. “They honestly get it, they know it is not about them. Ir’s about the military men and women who are in the boats with them.”
The tournament teams military personnel from the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force, with civilian anglers who regularly fish bass tournaments. The 8th Annual Warriors on the Water Tournament will be held Friday on North Carolina's Jordan Lake.
“We open the sign-up period on 9-11. We started at midnight last 9-11 and by 8 or 9 o'clock the next morning we had more than 80 boaters signed up. It was unreal,” Abshire said.
There are more than 150 boaters signed up for the tournament, with some coming from as far away as Pennsylvania, Abshire said.
There are three major events before the tournament, he added, the Icebreaker and a Little Heroes Tour Wednesday and a VIP Day Thursday.
On Wednesday morning several of the boaters trailer their rigs to the two elementary schools on Fort Bragg. They park their boats in the parking lot where the kids can come out and meet them and see them demonstrate fishing techniques and lures.
“A lot of those kids' moms or dads are deployed. It is a treat to see the children's eyes,” Abshire said.
Then on Thursday, Abshire will lead sponsors, volunteers and some of the fishermen to Fort Bragg and Hope Field.
“We want them to see what the military people do and then we bring the military people in on Friday and I tell them I want you to see what the fishermen do,” Abshire said.
Two special guests will appear at the festivities this year, Bassmaster Elite Pro Mark Menendez and former Elite Angler Jarett Edwards, host of “Jarrett Edwards Outdoors” on The Sporsman Channel and the World Fishing Network, HD.
Menendez is taking a leave of absence from the Elite Series this year while his wife undergoes treatment for cancer and Edwards is a cancer survivor, having undergone successful treatment for Hodgkins disease which knocked him off the Elite Tour.
The week ends Friday with the tournament where the top five teams are presented with trophies and gifts. Another special presentation is made to the winner of the Big Bass Award, which named in honor of a fallen soldier.
“The Big Bass Award has the fallen soldier's name on it and we invite his family to attend the presentation,” Abshire said.

Mark Daniels Of Fairfield, Ca Wins 2013 Tbf National Championship On Grand Lake!
13.Apr.2013 by BassFederation.com writers
Mark Daniels Jr., of Fairfield, Calif., saw his life’s work as well as his life’s passion validated as he took home the title of 2013 Federation National Champion. Bolstered by a total catch of 62 pounds, 4 ounces, including 19 pounds, 4 ounces during Saturday’s final day of competition, Daniels walked away with the tournament title as well as the coveted $100,000 “Living the Dream” prize package.
“I’m just so excited right now; I can’t even really think,” Daniels said. “After catching that huge bag on day two I knew I had a shot to win this thing.”
Daniels caught 18 pounds, 6 ounces on day one and a 24-pound, 10-ounce bag on day two to grab the top qualifying spot heading into the final round. Today, Daniels was able to finally seal the deal.
“My travel partner Tom Shimabukuro and I found fish A-rigging in practice that I thought could potentially be winning fish,” Daniels’s said. “Then, the final day of practice, me and Ben went out and we kind of solidified that.”
Daniels was paired with Ben Wright of Peru, N.Y., who would go on to become the national champion co-angler.
“We found a bunch of areas that looked similar and I went in and pulled a fish off of each one of those spots,” Daniels said. “I patterned the entire week off that.”
Daniels fished Drowning Creek down on the south end of the lake near the dam the whole week.
“I pulled off on practice because I knew I would just come and hit all of those spots during the tournament days,” he said. “I did that and just capitalized on all those bites. I didn’t lose many fish this week.
"Once I mentally understood what I thought the bigger fish were holding on, I just created my own milk run during the day,” Daniels’s continued. “I probably hit 25 different spots on that creek, hitting them 10 to 25 minutes at the most and then picking up and moving on to another spot.”
Amazingly enough, this was Daniels' first trip to the national championship.
“I’ve been fishing all my life – bass fishing since I was 11 and it’s literally a dream come true,” Daniels said. “To come here and win it, win the ‘Living the Dream’ package, a new Ranger boat –it’s going to take a week for it to hit me.”
His journey this week seemed to fit like pieces of a puzzle.
“I truly believe I have a gift from God to fish, not just me those that compete on the tour and other circuits too,” Daniels said. “My gift is fishing; this is what I do. It was just my time.”

Wright scores national championship title in Co-angler Division
Federation National Champion co-angler Ben Wright of Peru, N.Y., parlayed a final-day catch of 15 pounds 9 ounces into a three-day total weight of 50 pounds, 13 ounces. His overall effort was good enough to secure the prestigious national championship title as well as earn a berth in the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup.
However, Wright earned something else as well – netting TBF’s new “Living the Dream” co-angler package.
“In fishing there’s a lot of luck - there’s a lot of skill and there’s a lot of luck; and this week I had it,” Wright said. “I knew I was only 11 ounces behind (coming into today). I knew I was in a position to win it.”
But the road to the championship title was hardly a cakewalk. Wright struggled, catching two keepers in his first two days of practice until day three when he got paired with Daniels, the eventual boater champion.
“We just started to work some things out, put some things together,” he said.
Wright caught all his fish on an A-rig equipped with a 5-inch, white, curly-tailed grub.
“I seemed to get bit better than my other two boaters just following them in for the second pass on things. They were great fishermen, but I think maybe the fish were keying in on the white. I don’t know, but I got the fish to prove it.”
Wright said he owes Daniels a debt of gratitude as well.
“I give a lot of credit to Mark, a lot of credit,” Wright said. “If nothing else, what it did is get my head right. I was struggling in practice and it’s tough to go into a big tournament like this struggling. It put my head in a position where I said, ‘Okay, things can work. I’m going to catch fish.’ I just had to go out and execute.”
For a complete list of co-angler results, click here.
In addition to their respective tournament titles and cash prizes, both national champion anglers earned coveted spots in the 2013 Forrest Wood Cup and the 2013 BFL All-American. Daniels, the national champion boater, will receive the $100,000 "Living the Dream" package. He will literally “live his dream” fishing as an FLW Tour pro for a year with use of a wrapped Ranger boat and Chevrolet truck. He will also receive travel expenses, sponsor merchandise and prizes.
For his efforts, Daniels also won the Ranger Cup contingency award – a new Ranger Z518 boat and trailer. Robert Rikard of Lexington, S.C., the top Ranger Cup qualifier in the Co-angler Division, won $5,000 cash.

Maryland Sets Positive Precedent For Improving Fishing Access
Lack of access to fishable waters is commonly cited as one of the top concerns among anglers. In an effort to help turn the tide and provide better public access to Maryland’s thousands of miles of rivers, streams and shorelines, Governor O’Malley recently signed into law a bill (HB 797) to promote safe recreational fishing, canoe and kayak access along the state’s bridges and roads. This is a tremendous victory for anglers and can be used as a model for other states to incorporate. KeepAmericaFishing™ wishes to thank the legislators, fishing and conservation organizations, and interested citizens who helped support this bill’s passage. KeepAmericaFishing members supported this legislation and we thank you for helping make passage possible.
Maryland’s 10,000 miles of rivers and streams, as well as its 4,000 miles of tidal shoreline, can be difficult to access because adjacent roads and bridges can lack safe shoulders, pull-off areas or parking. These areas often were constructed without regards to access and angler safety. Oftentimes access can be provided at minimal or no cost, but is not incorporated in project planning.
HB 797 addresses this problem and will enhance waterway access by requiring state and local transportation departments to consider providing, where reasonable and cost-effective, waterway access in roadway construction or reconstruction projects.
Before being signed into law by the Governor, this non-controversial, bipartisan and cost-effective legislation passed the House of Delegates by an overwhelming 130-3 margin and the Senate by 47-0 margin. The bill was supported by KeepAmericaFishing, the Maryland Legislative Sportsmen’s Foundation, the Chesapeake Conservancy, Maryland Bass Angler’s Sportsmen’s Society, and many other fishing and conservation organizations, as well as the Maryland Department of Transportation and Department of Natural Resources.
HB 797 would help promote outdoor recreational opportunities for families; greatly improve safety for recreational users and motorists alike; help stimulate the economies and livability of local communities; and enhance the health and quality of life of our citizens. KeepAmericaFishing looks forward to working with other state legislatures and transportation agencies to incorporate this beneficial and non-controversial legislation throughout the country.
Amateur Angler Mark Zacher Wins Bassmaster Sweeps To Fish With Ike!
Mark Zacher has a morning ritual. Before he goes to work in Rapid City, S.D., he sits down at the computer every day and logs on to Bassmaster.com. That time online paid off with his win of the Bassmaster.com “Fish with Ike” Sweepstakes that ended March 15.
“I think I entered every day,” Zacher said. “If I missed one day, it was just one. I always enter the contests [on Bassmaster.com]. I’m a big supporter of B.A.S.S., and I think they do a wonderful job, but I never expected to win, nor have I ever won anything like this.
“You can imagine how shocked I was when I got the call that I won. I hung up and called back half an hour later. I asked, ‘Is this for real?’ I couldn’t believe it. It’s still a shocker.”
Zacher’s prize is a fishing trip with Bassmaster Elite Series pro Michael Iaconelli, part of a package of prizes, including cash, gear and gifts that adds up to almost $5,000. He will fish with the high-profile New Jersey pro on the Monday after the Bassmaster Elite Series tournament on the Mississippi River in La Crosse, Wis., June 20-23.
“Mike is one of my favorite pros,” Zacher said. “Of the five I really like, he’s one of them. I’ve read up on him and know what his strengths are. I feel like I’m a versatile fisherman, and I hope I can hang with him. I want to show up and get out there and fish and have a great time.”
Always an avid angler, Zacher got serious about bass fishing around 1989 and began fishing at the Bassmaster club level. He won both Rookie of the Year and Angler of the Year his first year, an affirmation that encouraged him to continue the sport.
“I wanted to do more bass fishing when I was younger, but I was raising a family and focused on that,” said Zacher, who competes at the B.A.S.S. Nation and Bassmaster Opens levels, often with his close friend Monty Fralick, Bassmaster Elite Series pro Jami Fralick’s father.
Zacher, who works in the parts department of a freightliner dealership in Rapid City, has a busy June ahead. The first week, he’ll fish a state tournament; the third week, he fishes with Iaconelli; and the last week, he celebrates his 30thwedding anniversary with his wife, Verlene.
Zacher’s father, Francis, has been an important influence in his bass fishing.
“He inspired me when I started doing tournaments,” Zacher said. “He’s a big bass fisherman, and he gave me confidence. Those are special moments when we fish together.”
In addition to a fishing trip with Iaconelli, which includes airfare, a rental car and a two-night hotel stay, Zacher won $500 in spending money, $900 in gear from Berkley and Abu Garcia, $500 in gear from Rapala and a chance to attend The Bass University.
“This has been very exciting for me,” Zacher said. “I’ve never been able to fish at a professional level, but winning this trip is like winning the Bassmaster Classic. It’s something I’ll never forget. It’s a dream come true.”
Beginning April 1, a new Bassmaster.com Sweepstakes began for a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to “Fish With Skeet!” on a fishery to be chosen by Elite Series pro Skeet Reese of California. The contest, which can be entered via Bassmaster.com or through mail-in entries, runs April 1 through June 12, and the winner will be selected on June 30.
