Chris Marshall and Josh Gardner win Carolinas Bass Challenge on Lake Murray!

Cold Snap Makes Fishing Tough For Fishers Of Men Regional On Lake Wylie
Twenty percent of the 80 teams signed up for the Fishers of Men East Region District 3 Championship on South Carolina's Lake Wylie will qualify for the FOM National Championship on Tennessee's Chickamauga Lake next spring, but if they are one of the 16 teams to make it they will have earned it.
Bass fishing on Lake Wylie has been tough recently and the cold front that moved through at mid-week, bringing sub-freezing temperatures and scattered snow, has not helped matters at all.
“I am not competing but I had a chance to go fishing on the lake Monday – just went out and played around – and it was kind of tough for me,” said tournament director John Snincak of Fort Mill, S.C. “I'd bet that fishing is going to be tough for these guys this weekend.”
Snincak said he had talked with a couple of the anglers competing in the regional championship this weekend and they also reported fishing was tough during practice this week.
“This cold front has affected the fishing, but hopefully by the end of the week we will get a little warming spell and things will change a little bit for the tournament,” he said.
Teams will be competing from the North Carolina Central, North Carolina East, North Carolina Piedmont, South Carolina Lowcountry and South Carolina Upstate Divisions, along with individual tams from Kentucky, Indiana and Georgia, Snincak said.
“I am sure there will be other teams, as well. They are all trying to win their spots and get to the national championship.”
Competing teams must attend the pre-tournament meeting Thursday evening at the Baxter Hood Center on Anderson Road. Registration will be held from 5:15 to 6 p.m., with the meeting and meal starting at 6 p.m. All teams must have at least one representative present for the entire meeting. Flight assignments will be given at the meeting.
“We've got Dearal Rodgers speaking at the meeting. He will bring our inspirational message,” Snincak said.
Rodgers, of Camden, S.C., who won the FLW Tour Co-Angler of the Year Award in 2009 and the FLW Tour's Forrest Wood Cup as a Co-Angler in 2010, had dropped off the FLW Tour to start up his business, but he plans to fish the 2014 Tour in hopes of making the Forrest Wood Cup next summer on Lake Murray near Columbia, S.C.
The Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail is a nonprofit, nondenominational ministry whose mission is to introduce Jesus to fishermen and their families and to invite them into a relationship with Him, through bass fishing tournaments, according to founder Al Odom.
The tournament trail, which began in 1998 as a small four division tournament trail with a total of 21 events through the first season, has now grown into one of the largest fishing tournament organizations in the country. During the 2012 season, 44 team tournament divisions and 34 legacy divisions combined for over 300 tournament events.
All FOM tournaments are team events, with each team consisting of two members. Legacy division teams are also two-person teams. However, a legacy team is made up of one member who is 19 or older, and one member who is under 19.
Membership is open to anyone without regard to religion, gender, age, or race.

Three-Pound-Plus Average Expected For Tom C.a.t.t. On Lake Wateree
Carolina Anglers Team Trail director Brett Collins started the TOM C.A.T.T. Tournament series on Lake Wateree to fill in between C.A.T.T. Tournaments, but the fishing has been so good on Wateree the last few years the local anglers don't want to miss a weekend with some good competitive fishing.
“This fall the average winning weight at Wateree has been just over 18 pounds. It took 18 to win last week's C.A.T.T. And I would expect the same this weekend,” Collins said. The eighth of nine TOM C.A.T.T. tournaments on the schedule this year will be held Saturday on Lake Wateree.
“Quality bass are still biting,” Collins noted. “Last weekend the big fish weighed almost 7 pounds.”
Collins said that after eight tournaments Donald Hinson and Pat Clark have the Wateree points title just about wrapped up.
“They won the points in 2012. The points winners in TOM C.A.T.T. Fish the next series free,” he said.
Actually, Hinson and Clark started the year off fairly slow. They finished 6th in the first tournament Feb. 16. The originally scheduled first tournament on Feb. 2 was canceled due to bad winter weather.
Hinson and Clark finished 5th in the March 30 tournament and 7th in the April 27 tournament, but then their luck began to change. Fishing with a sub angler, Clark won the May 11 tournament and the team took over the points lead, which they have not relinquished.
Hinson and Clark finished 3rd on July 27, Clark finished 5th Sept. 7 with a substitute teammate, and then Hinson and Clark won the tournament Nov. 2 to put a hammerlock on the title. The final tournament for 2013 2ill be held Dec. 7.
Entry fee in the TOM C.A.T.T. Tournaments is $120, with no membership fee. A $25 sid3e pot is optional.
“Next year we may tweak the TOM C.A.T.T. Format a little, but only to make it better so we will have more participation,” Collins said. “So far we plan to keep the TOM C.A.T.T. on Lake Wateree, but if there are guys asking for the series on other lakes we may start it up on a new lake.”
Collins added that the only TOM C.A.T.T. in North Carolina is on Lakes Gaston/Kerr.

RANGER BOATS BEGINS PRODUCTION ON NEW ALUMINUM LINE
Ranger Boats, the nation’s largest manufacturer of premium fiberglass fishing boats, announces the launch of an all-new aluminum series of boats for the 2013 model year!
A state-of-the-art production facility, located adjacent to company headquarters in Flippin, Ark., was unveiled earlier this week. The new operation includes two series of boats, the fishing-specific Tournament Series and ultra-versatile Apache Series. Both are scheduled to debut at dealerships and boat shows across the country in January.
“We know there are a lot of anglers and boat buyers looking for a premium-quality aluminum fishing boat at a great price,” said Ranger Boats President Randy Hopper. “And the new Tournament and Apache Series are built precisely to those standards. We’re proud of the best-in-class features in our fiberglass platforms and instilled the same craftsmanship and attention to detail in these aluminum designs.”
The all-new Tournament Series will consist of three models, built with the same Ranger DNA that’s crafted a 45-year legacy for making the industry’s best fiberglass fishing boats. The RT 178 sports a 17-foot, 8-inch bass configuration, while the RT 178C features a similar platform (17-foot, 8-inch) focused more on crappie and multispecies angling, complete with multiple seat locations and livewells. Rounding out the Tournament Series line is the RT188, an 18-foot, 8-inch bass design rated for 115 horsepower. All three models are built to exceed the needs of boat buyers in search of a durable, feature-laden, mod-V aluminum boat.
“So many anglers enter the boating lifestyle by purchasing an aluminum fishing boat,” said Ranger Vice President of Sales Keith Daffron. “We’re excited to offer these customers an affordable, durable product paired with the Ranger name and the long list of 5-Star advantages that come with it.”
In addition to the Tournament Series, the Ranger Apache Series will consist of four ultra-versatile models designed to appeal to anglers and waterfowl hunters alike. The Apache Series will include a 16-foot tiller model, 17- and 18-foot side-console models and an 18-foot center-console model. Whether the focus is on the spring spawn or the fall migration, Apache Series owners will benefit from an intuitive, all-purpose interior layout and a bevy of special features such as the durable, no-slip Rawhide interior surface and hand-painted camo exteriors.
“We know that Ranger owners aren’t just anglers, they are outdoor enthusiasts serious about their time outdoors, who expect the best in their equipment and gear,” Hopper said. “The versatility in the new Apache Series gives owners the freedom to take Ranger’s legendary quality with them year-round – whether they’re pursuing fish or waterfowl – without sacrificing features on either side.”
Photographs and more information on the new Ranger Apache and Tournament Series will be online soon. Customers are encouraged to visit www.rangeraluminum.com for updates.

Xtreme Bass Series Results - Lake Guntersville - Feb. 20, 2011
February 20th, 2011. 30 teams showed up for Xtreme bass series' first event of the season here at Val Monte Resort on Lake Guntersville. What a beautiful day it was as the winds were light to moderate and the temps reached 70 degrees. I'll take that in March and April. Well the fishing is still a little bit sporadic but the big fish are starting to cooperate, at least for some. Buddy Gross and James Milling brought in a huge 10.32 lber, (caught on a rattlebait). Of course there is no secret that the rattle baits were the lure of choice for most with some mention of a jig bite and the pink worm in 40 feet of water.
Some of the guys talked about making big runs to the slightly warmer water upriver and it looks like it paid off as some of the best weights came from that group. The results are as follows: 1st pl. and $1290 went to Hadley Coan and Donny Mcelvoy with 22.92 lbs anchored by a 6.88 lber. 2nd pl. and $600 went to Buddy Gross and James Milling with 20.08 lbs. They also had big fish of 10.32 lbs and got $300 for it. I don't know about you, but I can't imagine how fun that was catching a 10 1/2 lber on a rattletrap. 3rd pl. and $250 went to the team of Ryan Mcintosh and Ronnie Brewer, who came from Kentucky to show us how it's done, with 19.98 lbs. 4th pl. was Jeff and Kristy Sparks with 19.50 and a nice 6 lber. for $160. Jeff Knight and Jett Loach took 5th spot with 19.40 lbs and a nice 7 lber. for $100. All final results can be found on www.xbseries.com. as well as the pics of the day.
Special thanks to Val Monte Resort for hosting and offering up their entire place for us. Chris Lane's new tackle store here on the premises that opened up early for our guys to get last minute lures and coffee. Thanks to my wife, Michelle, and Jim Elsessor for helping at weighin, Beverly for watching my kids, and thank God for all of it. We are excited about the year to come and looking forward to our next event March 13th.
