The 2012 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship is entering its seventh consecutive year, with each year’s field larger and more diverse than the prior.  400 students, representing up to 100 collegiate fishing programs, are expected to converge on Florence, Alabama and legendary Lake Pickwick the week of May 21, 2012.  The Shoals Marriott Hotel will serve as Registration Headquarters, starting at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.  Students will be welcomed by a sponsor reception and treated to a banquet dinner prior to the pre-tournament meeting.

“After a long and very successful run the past six years at Lake Lewisville, we’re excited to take the 2012 BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship to Lake Pickwick for the next two years so that we’ll have more room to grow this event, both now and in the future.   At this year’s event we look to not only continue our record-setting trends for participation, but now also challenge the existing weight records for the event, as Lake Pickwick in May should offer plenty of opportunities for the students to catch a lot of quality bass, both largemouth and smallmouth,” said Wade Middleton, Tournament Director.

Collegiate anglers will launch daily at McFarland Park on the shores of Lake Pickwick, with weigh-ins to start daily at 2:30 pm.  The collegiate team with the heaviest weight over the course of two competition days will be crowned National Champions at an awards ceremony immediately following the weigh-in on Friday.  In addition to prizes, students are also competing for points in the coveted ACA School of the Year race, which is the first college rankings program to recognize the top collegiate fishing teams in the country, taking into account their participation across all leagues.

The BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship is the marquee event of three nationally televised tournaments hosted as part of the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship Series.  These no entry fee events are open to all full-time students of university-recognized fishing programs.  Competitions are broadcast as part of the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship Television Series, seen on NBC Sports Outdoors and available to over 76 million homes.
