The Association of Collegiate Anglers (ACA) has been made aware of rules infraction assessed by B.A.S.S. involving University of West Alabama Fishing Team head coach William Crawford during the 2026 Strike King Bassmaster College National Championship at Leech Lake.

Following its investigation, B.A.S.S. determined there was a violation of its rules and Code of Conduct.

As a result of the investigation, B.A.S.S. has levied punishment effective immediately and extending through the completion of the 2026-27 season, upon Crawford and West Alabama for these violations. Crawford has been suspended from all B.A.S.S.-sanctioned events, and while West Alabama anglers will be permitted to compete, they will not accrue points towards the B.A.S.S. Team of the Year standings.

Pursuant with the ACA’s Official Rules, the ACA is acknowledging, upholding, and enforcing the same penalties and punishment to Coach Crawford and the West Alabama fishing team at all ACA tournaments starting immediately through the end of 2027. Coach Crawford will not be allowed to attend any ACA events and West Alabama will not earn any points during this suspension towards the ACA School of the Year points system. West Alabama anglers will be allowed to compete at ACA events, providing they meet all other eligibility requirements. West Alabama anglers will have the opportunity to qualify for the Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship and earn prizes at each event.

The ACA continues to remain committed to protecting the integrity of the tournament field and competition, providing college student anglers a fair environment in which to compete. Ethical standards and sportsmanship are expected of all participants and affiliated representatives. Further penalties, changes, and restrictions could be imposed in the future as applicable to this, or other situations concerning this matter.
