From Saginaw Bay to Smith Mountain Lake: Why These Two Pros Trust Suzuki

Matt Becker’s fourth year running a Suzuki Marine Outboard lines up with his entire Bass Pro Tour career. He qualified in 2023 and won Bally Bet Angler of the Year in his rookie season on the strength of a win at Stage Seven on Saginaw Bay. Four years, four Suzukis, and a Bass Pro Tour résumé that already runs to 12 top 10s and better than $480,000 in earnings.

Ask him why and reliability tops the list, but he doesn’t dress it up. “Really, there’s not a reason not to run a Suzuki,” he said. “This thing is legit.” What he cares about is what happens at the dock every morning. “I know every time I turn that key, she’s going to fire up,” he said. “She’s going to get me back to weigh-in, back to the ramp, wherever you need to get. So reliability is number one most important thing for me out on tour.”

Nick Hatfield’s a year behind Becker on the Bass Pro Tour. He qualified in 2024 and broke through last year at Heavy Hitters on Smith Mountain Lake, running away with the win by more than 12 pounds for a $110,000 payday. “I’ve got to count on this thing to get me to the fish, to get me back,” he said. “I trust this thing more than anything on this whole entire rig and it’s bulletproof.”

The second reason gets less attention: fuel economy. “This thing is as fuel efficient as a motor as I’ve had,” Hatfield said. “I’ve ran other brands in the past and this thing does great on fuel.” Becker’s take is more blunt. “This thing practically makes gas,” he said. On tour, where the fuel tank is fixed and the water isn’t, that difference decides whether you get one more pass at a school before you have to run in. “Being able to get it just a little bit further some of those times, it’s super important and can play a really big role.”

Four years for Becker. A $110,000 payday for Hatfield. Neither one’s shopping around.  Hear it for yourself!
