Anderson Wins Walmart Bass Fishing League Lbl Division Event On Kentucky/Barkley Lakes

BENTON, Ky. (March 3, 2014) – Brent Anderson of Kingston Springs, Tenn., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 26 pounds, 7 ounces Saturday to win the first Walmart Bass Fishing League LBL Division tournament of 2014 on Kentucky and Barkley lakes. For his victory, Anderson earned $4,610.

Anderson picked up his third BFL win by making an 85-mile run on a day he described as “eerily calm” to the New Johnsonville area of Kentucky Lake.

“I caught one fish in practice, fishing in the Paris and Kenlake area,” said Anderson. “I got on a really good pattern in New Johnsonville in 2010 and I just decided to go there to start and pretend that I was practicing.
“The first spot I stopped at I caught a limit that weighed probably 14 pounds, and I looked at my co-angler and said ‘I know where they are.’ The next spot I stopped at I caught a 6 ¼-pounder, and the spot after that I caught a 7-pounder. I could basically call my shots once I had that first piece of the puzzle to tell me where they were.”
Anderson said he was cranking bars in 6 to 8 feet of water with a Strike King KVD HC Flat Side crankbait and that he caught upwards of 30 keepers.
“Each win has meant something different,” added Anderson. “This one meant a lot because I was on absolutely nothing in practice. That’s probably my biggest weakness in fishing. Usually if I have a mediocre practice, I might as well drop out of the tournament. This was a big deal for me mentally. Finding fish on the day of the tournament is something I’ve been trying to work on.”

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
