Fishing Tough On Douglas Lake For Final 2012 Tom’s Marine Tournament Saturday
Fishing for the final regular season tournament in the Tom’s Marine Tournament Trail on Douglas Lake Saturday will likely be about as tough as it gets, according to tournament director Richard McMaster.
“In recent tournaments over there the weights are down. The lake is really clear and they have not been moving water like they normally do this time of year, so that is keeping it clear and making it really tough on the fishermen,” McMaster said.
However, that could possibly start to change by Saturday, he noted. A weather front is moving through and that could improve things for the fishermen.
But, if recent tournaments are an indication of what is in store this weekend, look for low weights, he said.
“It only took 6 1/2 pounds to win a tournament on Douglas Sunday. And the week before it only took 13 pounds to win a tournament there. This time of year on Douglas it should be taking anywhere form 17 to 20 pounds to win a tournament.”
Meanwhile, the team of David Mullins and Brent Hoskins have pretty much wrapped up the points race, he noted. The pair won the last Tom’s Marine tournament Sept. 15 on Cherokee Lake, extending their lead to 27 points with just the Douglas Lake tournament Saturday left on the schedule.
“Mullins and Hoskins basically just need to catch some fish Saturday to hold on,” McMaster said. “The points championship is theirs to lose, but anything can happen with fishing so tough.”
McMaster said he is looking forward to the Toms Marine Team Trail Classic Oct. 27-28, on Cherokee the first day and Douglas the second day.
“We will have a banquet that Friday night before the Classic and everybody who fished the trail is invited to attend, even if they did not make the Classic,” he said.
McMaster also announced that the Tom’s Marine Team Trail website has moved. All of the information on the trail can now be found at: www.tomsmarinetn.com.
The Tom’s Marine 2012-13 Winter Trail and 2013 Tom’s Marine Team Trail schedules are also posted on the website.
The Winter Trail starts Nov. 10 on Cherokee Lake, followed by Nov. 24, Cherokee; Dec. 8, Douglas; Dec. 22, Cherokee; Dec. 29, Douglas; Jan. 12, Cherokee; and the Championship Jan. 26 on Cherokee.
The 2013 Tom’s Marine Team Trail starts March 9 on Cherokee, followed by March 30, Douglas; April 27, Cherokee; May 11, Douglas; June 15, Douglas; Sept. 14, Cherokee; Oct. 5, Douglas; with the Classic Nov. 2 on Cherokee and Nov. 3 on Douglas.
“Other details, such as time and ramps, will be announced later,” McMaster said. “We look forward to seeing all of you in 2013 for another great season. Check back often for more details about the 2013 season.”
