Palm Bay Bassmasters Fish Okeechobee; 15-Yr-Old Christian Gibbs Lands Big Bass!

The Palm Bay Bassmasters hit Big Lake Okeechobee for the June tournament. We had fourteen boaters with nine non-boaters, four of our non-boaters were fishing as guests, we had high winds but we had a good water level hovering right around twelve feet. The fishing was tough, not a lot of big bass caught but a few hawgs were brought to the scale for weigh-in. The two day total was One hundred-sixty bass with eight limits caught. This was our first really hot, summer like tournament and we did really well keeping our favorite beast alive.

First place angler is Dean Harcourt of Sebastion. Dean fished the Rim ditch both days from Uncle Joe’s cut to where the Dynamite holes start south of the Clewiston channel. He was throwing a white buzzbait early in the day and switched up to a junebug colored worm and would flip a black jig every once in a while. Dean a had a two day total of ten bass weighing in at 24.69 pounds. His best bass was a 5.46 pound Big O fatty!
Second place is Rob Walker of Deland. Rob ran from Uncle Joe’s cut to Rita Island. He was fishing a watermelon red fluke and flippin’ a vibe worm. Rob had a nice lead on day one, his two day total is 21.74 pounds with a ten fish limit. Rob earns Big Bass Honors with a nice 6.21 pound fatty!
Third place goes to John Kinchen of Palm Bay. John fished a white spinner bait at the Pahoke rocks both days and weighed-in a nice ten fish limit totaling 17.82 pounds. John’s best bass was a nice 2.51 pound hawg.
Team place
First place team is Donnie Gibbs and his son, Christian fishing as a guest, with 38.12 pounds. They brought nineteen fish to the scale and Christian would have had Big Bass Honors IF he was a member with a nice 7.67 pound swamp donkey.
Second place team is Dean Harcourt and Dale Stevens. Dean and Dale slayed the bass and weighed-in eighteen bass totaling 35.37 pounds.
Third place goes to John Kinchen and Tom Ziegler. They had seventeen bass totaling 26.95 pounds.
The Brevard Electric Services Award goes to Jay Givens of Palm Bay. Jay fished hard for two days and weighed-in one keeper hawg totaling 0.96 pounds.
I’d like to thank all the guests that fished with us for two days in the heat. Christian Gibbs, Jeff Allender, John Givens, and Cindy Williams. Thank you all and we hope to see you as full fledged members soon.
Okay I’m going to unleash a lot of praise here now because I can. I brought my son Christian with me and I had the best time fishing with him. When he caught that 7.67 pounder on Sunday morning/Father’s Day I was so ecstatic I can’t begin to explain the joy that was in my heart. I’m so proud of my boy and can’t wait till he’s slaying all of you seasoned anglers on a regular basis as a full time member of our club.
Thank you all for another safe and successful tournament. You all are amazing!
At the mention of my name fish tremble, TourD/DonnieG
