Williams Gets First Top 5 Finish On Havasu!

We got into town on Saturday night so I had a couple days to relax before our official practice started on Tuesday which was really nice after a challenging week in the delta. I got to admit when I first saw how clear this water is it really intimidated me. I mean you could see fish swimming 15-20 feet deep! I was thinking for sure it would be dominated by the deep fishermen but I quickly found out there are some shallow fish in this place. I quickly developed three patterns that would work for me. I could catch them on top around any wood, jig around grass, and spinnerbait or swimbait around rocks. On Day one I started out with my top water and never caught one so after about two hours I picked up the swimbait and I caught a 4 1/2 and a 4 almost back to back so I stuck with that and ended up with a limit that went 16.8 and was in 14th. Day 2 was a struggle we had a huge front rolling thru and those fish quit bittin! I finally got on a few fish deep in the grass flipping a jig and late that evening I finally had one good bite and broke it off. I managed a limit that went 11.4 and dropped to 46th but good enough for the cut. Day 3 was the magic day for me I found some big fish guarding fry and caught me a really good bag on top water and a jig. Had a limit that went 19.8 anchored by two over 5 pounds and moved up to 7th place so I made my first 12 cut pretty exciting! On day 4 I started off slow but was able to go back and flip deep in the grass with a jig and catch another limit that went 15.10 and that helped me move up two more spots to 5th place! So a pretty awesome event for me on a beautiful lake. If you ever get a chance take your family and go visit lake Havasu I can promise you that you will never see a more beautiful lake!
