‘Little Fish’ tourneys offer BIG fun

Ready to do a LITTLE fishing? This fish would be money at a Little Fish tourney!

Little fish could net you a lot of money . . . if you are fishing one of Bienville Plantation’s Little Fish Tournaments.

While most tourneys reward the guys with the heaviest sacks of bass, these tournaments reward the team that puts the greatest number of fish in the livewell, as long as they are shorter than the maximum length.

In order to win one of these events you should aim for the century mark – 100 bass in a day. Sometimes it takes a good bit more. Sometimes it ‘only’ takes 80 fish to win.

The idea is to thin the population in one of the South’s most famous lakes – Lake 14 at Bienville Plantation. The fishery is so fertile that tons of small bass need to be relocated to nearby ponds in order to maintain trophy size for the remaining fish.

Every lake has its carrying capacity and maximum nutrient load, so you can have lots of small fish or fewer, but larger, bass. Due to the extreme fertility of the reclaimed phosphate mines, Bienville’s lakes offer the best of both worlds, but fisheries management is still required.

“We could just shock them up and move them ourselves,” said Dock Glawson who oversees the property, “but we figured ‘heck, why not let some people come in here and have the fun of doing it with a hook and line?’.”

While a day on the famed lake would typically cost much more, the entry fee for a Little Fish Tournament is $150. Total payback is 50% to 1 out of every 7 boats.
