Jonathan Lee & Travis Hummel had another solid day on Lake Hartwell. The pair brought in 12.34 pounds today to make for a three-day total of 39.21 pounds, less than a pound ahead of the Day Two leaders Kevin & Kyle Oleen. Their win was worth $4000 while winning an additional $720 for Day Two Big Bass. Additionally, the team is eligible for $7000 in Triton Gold cash, as well as, contingency cash from Mercury and T-H Marine Atlas Awards.  “During practice, we were losing fish. We changed out our hooks to KVD 2X Short Mustad Triple Grip trebles on the Strike King 2.5 square bills we were using in Sexy Shad color, targeting shallow points. Tuesday was a great practice day and we came off of the water by 9:00 AM to keep from burning through our fish. We were blessed, we had a great time, and we’re glad we won,” said Lee.

Kevin & Kyle Oleen finished the event in second place with a three-day total of 38.64 pounds winning $1100. “We caught our fish on a Carolina rig, Zara Spooks, and a few on a swimbait. I lost a 3-4 pounder on a Spook this morning and I knew that would hurt.  Yesterday, I had a fish blow up on my Spook and cut the line. While the Spook was laying on top of the water, another bass hit it and took it down. I tied on another Spook and about 30 minutes later, it floated to the surface,” said Kevin Oleen.

The team of Mitchell Oldnettle & Len Lindahl ended the week in third place with a three-day total of 35.78 pounds. Third place was worth $700, along with $720 for the Day One Big Bass. “No one is going to believe this. We are from Florida and we typically fish grass and lily pads. We found 25 yards of grass in this lake and caught all of our fish out of that grass on a frog,” said Oldnettle.

Day Three Big Bass belonged to the team of George Kunkle & and Clifton Holt. Their 4.80 pound bass was worth $720.

The annual ABA Military Team Bass Tournament is an exclusive event for current and former service men and women of our armed forces. Teams from 14 different states came from across the country to compete for bragging rights and cash payouts on Lake Hartwell this week.

The 2018 event will be held on May 8-11, 2018 at Old Hickory Lake and is hosted by the Sumner County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
