Ask Captain Jack: Knowledge Is Power!
Ask Captain Jack is a unique service that is designed to give you knowledge of your favorite bodies of water, fish species, equipment, techniques, etc. that you have never had before and will not find anywhere else. Ask Captain Jack uses data from our members' fishing trips to identify trends and patterns that are critical in understanding how the different variables involved in fishing - the fish themselves, weather, equipment, technique, etc. - impact your success. The responses that you give when filling out your Journal Entries fall into a database, which then looks at the data as a whole using our Patent Pending technology to identify similar occurrences among the data. These similar occurrences become the trends and patterns that will help you more effectively plan your trips, catch more fish and have more fun! Want to see an example of what Ask Captain Jack can do?

Personal Journal: Keep a Diary of Your Fishing Trips
Membership in AnglersChannel.com gives you access to your own Personal Journal where you can record the details of your fishing trips, including where you were, what you were using and how you did. In addition, we automatically log the weather conditions for your trips, based on the dates and times you record, so you can see what impact the weather has on your fishing success. The information you record in your Journal Entries can be viewed individually by browsing your entries or in summary by using our Journal Reports feature. You can also utilize our Journal Search feature to locate specific Journal Entries. By consistently entering trip information into your Personal Journal, you can track your success as a fisherman and begin to see trends and patterns emerge that will help you plan future trips more effectively and enhance your fishing success.

Journal Definitions
When recording the details of your fishing trips, several catch specific values are required. These values include the bait type used, the type of location where you caught the fish, and several others. We have a created a definitions list for each of these value to help you decide the best choice.

Journal Reports
The information you record in your Journal Entries can be viewed individually by browsing your entries or in summary by using our Journal Reports feature. The reports are broken down into two categories; "the number of fish caught" by specified criteria, and "overall catches" which provides averages for length, weight, and depth.
The text reports also provide graphs linked from different areas of the report. These graphs provide graphical comparisons between you and all the other anglers who enter their trips through our site. To view the graph, click the icon within the report.
For example, the "Largest Fish Caught" report will provide you with information for the largest fish you have caught. The report will show the date of the catch and which lake you caught the fish in. Next to the lake name you will see the icon. By clicking the icon you will see a comparison graph between you and other anglers for the largest fish caught, for a specific date range, for that specific lake.

Weather Center: The Critical Information You Need
Our Weather Center is designed to give you the weather information you need when you need it. We give you access to current conditions, including temperature, barometric pressure, wind, moon phases, satellite imagery and Doppler radar. We also give you forecasts for the upcoming days so you'll be able to identify the best days to get on the water. In addition, as mentioned above, weather information is automatically captured and recorded in your Personal Journal based on the responses to dates and times in your Journal Entries so you can get an idea of how weather impacts your fishing success. Understanding the effects weather has on fish is an important step in improving your skill as a fisherman and our goal is to give you the best information available to aid in this process.
