David Williams Re-Caps Bassmaster Elite Series Event #2 On Guntersville

Thanks to Elite Series and Local Pro David Williams for this report!

When I arrived for practice most of the water temps were in the low 60s and with warmer weather in the forcast I focused most of my efforts to looking shallow! I came up with 3 pretty good patterns that worked well. I could catch them pretty consistent with a spinnerbait on any rocks. I also could catch a few big fish every day around wood on top water. I also found a few pockets that were loaded with bedding fish. Day 1 of the event water temps had already climbed to near 70! I caught a couple fish early on the spinnerbait then I made a big mistake and didn’t settle down and fish and I ran around way too much! I was very fortunate to catch a 6 pounder on top water with about 30 min to go on day 1 which gave me 15.8 pounds and had me down around 60th place. On day 2 I knew I had a lot of ground to make up so I commited to one creek and just kept the trolling motor down and fished hard all day! I caught a limit quick on a spinnerbait and a swim jig then I went to a pocket where I found a bunch of bedding fish and I caught about 20 fish just blind bed fishing but all were the same size 2 1/2 -3 pounds. I caught them I on a green pumpkin brush hog. I just never could get one of the big females that I had seen in this area. I ran out of time and weighed in another limit that went 14.2 pounds and fell all the way to 91st. Place with 29.10 total. Not the way I had wanted it to go but when you are fishing the best lake in the country you cannot settle for 3 pound class fish. Learned a lot this week hope to do better in Ca.
